Days of Wonder announces the first expansion for Five Tribes®: The Artisans of Naqala
A new Tribe appears in the game, as well as new Workshops and Specialized Markets tiles, and precious or magic Items that open new strategies
Los Altos, CA; Paris, France – April 21, 2015. Today, Days of Wonder announced The Artisans of Naqala, the first expansion for Five Tribes. The Artisans make up a new Tribe in the game and you will need to put them to good use if you want to claim the Sultanate!
Represented by purple Meeples, the Artisans add a new layer of strategy in Five Tribes. With their help, players will be able to have precious or magic items crafted. Some of them are worth Victory Points, while others unlock special powers.
To accommodate these new Meeples, the expansion also features new Tiles: Workshops (where the Artisans craft their Items) and Specialized Markets (where players can buy specific Merchandise when needed). An impassable Chasm Tile, as well as Mountain markers, will also force the players to adapt their strategy when moving Meeples on the board. Two new Djinns are also provided in the expansion.
"I knew that sooner or later, a new Tribe would appear in Five Tribes", said Five Tribes creator, Bruno Cathala. "Artisans bring some variety in the Sultanate, yet they do not break the balance of the game – but you should not ignore them as their magic items can be very powerful. The new Mountains and Chasm also ensure a lot of replayability as moving Meeples on the board will not be as easy as before".
Five Tribes is for 2 to 4 players, ages 13 and older and takes approximately 40-80 minutes to play. The expansion, which requires the base game for play, includes 15 Wooden Tribe Meeples, 6 new Tiles (Workshops, Specialized Markets, and Chasm), 4 Tents, 4 Djinn cards (2 new & 2 revised), 6 Mountains, 18 Item Markers, 1 New Scoring Pad, and 4 Summary Sheets. The expansion is expected to be available from game retailers in June in Europe and early August in North America (GenCon) at an expected retail price of $25/€20.
