On a scale of 1-10, how much do you like Small World? And why?

Hmmm I would give it a 9 or 10 (hard to give out a definite 10 since that implies absolute perfection).
But I would say that after 5 or 6 games I am certainly an addict. I try to get a SW game going whenever possible - If I have an hour to spare I am calling people trying to coordinate a meet. I am involved with entering the design contest which also takes a great deal of my mental energy and time. I have weeks of playtesting ahead of me in a desperate attempt to get my idea picked.
What makes SW so great is the replayability factor. You have to play literally dozens of games to get access to all of the Special Power and Race combos and even then you will never see the same ones in the same order. The rules are very nicely balanced and we have not had to make any house rules (which always feels "dirty" to me anyway) to fix any broken portions.
The artwork is great (the box artwork is superb and fits the game perfectly) and the game has a great overall personality. There is plenty of humor and moments of laughter throughout the session - I will never forget the first time the Sorcerers went "Commando" beneath their robes or the first time that the Amazons were "mounted". It is ripe for expansion, which will only make it better and more fun as we get more races, powers, maps and tokens, maybe even a new theme? (sci-fi, perhaps?)
I look forward to many more games of this fine DOW product and hope that you all will enjoy my winning entry in the contest!

Also a few notes I forgot to include in my earlier post:
I like SW because I rarely get to enjoy games of strategy and planning. Too many games, while awesome in their own ways, rely on luck via cards and dice. SW offers refreshing change.
Another quality is how the game suits every player "type" in some way. Do you like killing off opponents? Grab those Berserk Amazons and have at it. Prefer a more civilized approach? Then Merchant or Diplomat is available to you. Whatever your style, a race and power combo is going to surface for you (in the meantime, just take the Pillaging Orcs - you are sure to enjoy THOSE).
And the decline system is probably the glue that holds the whole thing together. Knowing when your race is at its peak has become an art form. I am not quite there yet but I learn a little more with each game.
As you can see, I am a big fan (and I also like to type looong messages). Hope this answers all of the OP's questions, lol.

Fun, good replayability, easy to learn but intelligent mechanics, nice components.

9 out of 10. The soul reason it is not a 10 is the Dwarves, and maybe the wizards. Ironically, if you take them out of the game, I would probably give it a 10.
Break down of why I like it so much:
Replayability- 10
2 player- 10
3, 4,and 5 player- 10
startegy attacking- 10
strategy defending- 10
strategy choosing your next race, when to go into decline, and whether or not to try for a final conquest- 10

9 out of 10.
It is fun to play but yet some races can be a bit confusing Ghouls, Amazons or I am still trying to figure out why I keep on rolling blank on the reinforcement die.
Also it would do nicely with 3D components or with availability to play 6 players or even using a modular board to cretae a new smallworld everytime.

i give it a solid 9/10
the only flaw is when you play with 5 players and 1-2 player are newbie, they tend to spend a longer time to read the stats and thinking, so sometimes the game can stretch to 2.5 hours and that's too long, other than that, everything is great

What I like about this game is that for some reason my family loves it and they would never play war games. Family game nights are pretty much Euchre, Uno, Monopoly, etc. It is great to have a game that I can play with gamers and the family.

The key to the game is to really, really, really, study the rules and FAQ boards so you can explain races and powers to first time players when playing it. Nothing's worse than promoting a game that you don't know yourself.
There's something about this game that gives it almost unlimited potential to grow into something big. I already want more. I want more races, better hardware (Storage trays, New Maps).

I agree. This is a great game, but its appeal to me increases because, like Lithanial, it is one that my entire family will play on occassion (my 6-year old daughter is the hard one to get interested in certain games, but she can play this one), although I can occassionlly get someone to play Memoir '44.

I agree that this game has nearly unlimited potential! I can imagine more Race and Power expansions coming out over the years with huge ranges of game elements included.
I hadn't even thought about new maps, but that would create some great new twists on the game to have a whole other set of maps to switch out to.
I give this game a solid 10 (though I'm generous in my ranking...maybe I just have too much fun with board games). This is a game that is easy to learn, hard to master, and exciting to play!
