Earning honor Sat, 27 November 2010 02:50
Some players are showing 4 honor and I've seen one with 5. Some of these players have played less games than me.

I've never deliberately quit a game & have always played honorably - so I'm confused about how these players earnt or were awared more honor.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Phread the honourable!

I think you earn honor the more games you play that don't have any dropped games, meaning there are people in the online world that drop out of games when losing...happens all over.

My take, why play/start an online game if you don't have intentions of completing it?

hi david,

if I'm not mistaken, i have count up around 10 incomplete games and that's not because both of us didn't want to, but the game didn't allow us to complete the game.

I know the trouble with resuming game is still in the fixing process, but I guess this is should be the top priority and hopefully a new version will be released in a week, because sometimes when you're one medal away from winning, and then suddenly you dropped out because of the server glitch or internet problem, a Killer robot "smartly" replaced you and do nothing, and then you'll be reported losing by 0-6 lol

as in Vassal, there are numerous loss of connection, but the beauty of it that :
1. You can record/start games log and then resume any games any time we want. The log is also very useful to write up AAR later (nobody wants to quickly write up AAR after a single battle, the valuable time will be better to be used to continue the second battle) or to relive a battle that took place, let's say 2 years ago, that's something I occasionally do to watch a tense battle years ago in Vassal.
2. you can re-sync again to continue the game without any problem

Your explanation doesn't match my example. People who have played far less games than me have gain +1 or +2 honor.

I don't think I'm dishonorable but can't see any reason for the difference.

At this point, don't worry about the Honor thing too seriously because there are still problems with dropped games and such! When I see that some players have lower honor, I assume that it's because of crashes, not because of dishonorable behavior. Once these issues are fixed I might start putting more stock in the Honor score when it comes to starting games...but for now don't worry about it.

Just continue to play honorably, continue to have fun, and continue playing!! Cool

And I've just noticed I now have 4 honor dots.
Perhaps all you have to do is keep being honourable!

I see this honor system as a form of Guilty unless proven Innocent.

Would it not be better to assume that all players are honorable when they sign up, but then they lose Honor for bad behavior, rather than gain it for playing normally?

I think it's fine as is. You earn honor. You're not entitled to it.

You are assumed honorable at the start...you begin with a standard 3 honor. That can drop through bad behavior all the way to 1 honor. Or with continued good behavior you can gain even more than the basic 3 honor! Rolling Eyes

That has nothing to do with honor. It is a basic "skill number"...it increases or decreases based on the difficulty of the battle, the nation you represented, the opponent you played against, your margin of victory, etc and then either increases your 'skill number' or decreases it.

I don't worry too much about that number, except to see if it moved up or down. Cool

Just wanted to suggest that honor be awarded (optionally) by the opponent after a game.
Honor shouldn't have anything to do with crashes, cats pulling out the plug for your computer (as has happened to me), or having to end a game prematurely due to "real life" events.

Just my 0.02 Danish Crowns.

I don't believe the honor is effected by crashes and such, but I'm not sure on that. Cool

What if your opponent is not honorable with assigning honor?

And once a player has a few negative comments about their playing, will anyone else want to play with them? Rolling Eyes If I read that someone was swearing or stalling, I wouldn't want to play them even if the reports weren't true because how am I supposed to know? And what if it was true but he or she learned from their mistake and now they're 'labeled'?

Like I've said, the less public shaming we have the better! Cool

Not saying it's perfect, but I would actually like a system that rewards people who are FUN to play with.
For me, this is the most important.
You could have a system that was only positive, i.e. you can only give honor, not take it. And if people don't want to be judged they could disable/hide their Honor score.

Interesting idea! Smile That's a whole new take on the honor system that I had never thought of...

In the end it comes down to the same thing. Anything that let's players rate other players, either NEG/POS or only POS, can and will be abused. There is already a buddylist if you want to keep track of people that are fun to play with.

Not entirely. I don't just want to play with my pals, I'd like to meet new players. Now if someone comes highly recommended I'd try to play with him, and if I find him (or her in those rare cases) fun to play with then I'll add them to my buddy list.

I agree with Nygard. Honor should be a function of an opponent's post battle review of a player. This in addition to the current allocation system would be great. I think it would be cool to have players with enough honor trade some in for a re-roll or something. I have 6 right now...I want some re-rolls 😀
