Campaign Book 1 upcoming Games Wed, 04 July 2012 06:04
Hello to all. I write this because I value the opinions from the community.

I have preparing to play a series of games from the Campaign book 1. I am planning on playing a specific side and sticking with that side throughout the entire campaign.

As I play games, any game really, with my son-in-law, he normally wins. We have played several Memoir44 games and my winning average is about 35%. I know, not very good. Be nice:)

Now the question.

Which side should I play to not change the course of history? Should I play the Axis or the Allies? I guess I'm really asking, is there a side that gives me a better chance to win??

Thanks ahead for your coming comments

There are several Campaigns in the Campaign Book Volume 1, and each one is going to be a bit of a different answer...so before anyone can help you figure out which side to take, it might be good to tell us which Campaign you plan on playing! Cool

My recommendations:

Fall Gelb Grand Campaign as the Germans.

Normandy Grand Campaign as the Allies.

Trumpetman, if you have time, I suggest that you play each battle both sides. Because it usually takes a looooooong time to set up the terrain, some time longer than playing the battle !

That's what we did with my son.

My 2 cents.

We will be starting at the beginning of the book with the "Battle of Normandy".

Well if you don want to change the course of history, play as Axis in Normandy, French in Fall Gelb and as Soviet in Barbarossa Campaign. Cool But if you want to have bigger chance to win, play quite opposite sides. Smile

I would recommend playing as axis. On average they are grossly outnumbered in the game, have smaller hands and several cards give them a disadvantage, most clearly in the air power card. Most expansions give extra positive rules allied nations, while Germany leaps behind. The exceptions are soviet union with commissar, and tiger tanks (debatable though).

But that's not the point of the campaigns. The secondary objectives allow for catch up in total point numbers, so while individual battles might not be entirely balanced, the campaign as a whole is intended to be more so.

I would play Fall Gelb as Germans.

Also, like tinsoldier, I suggest playing both sides. The games take longer to set up than to play. So, when I play a campaign, I play the scenario at least 2 times, sometimes 4 (since chances are I won't be setting it up again soon).
