I have no-one on my ignore list. Why not?

Mostly for reasons stated before: You don't know (most of the time) if your opponent has left the game on purpose or if he had an emergency of some kind. (Kid falling of stairs/out of tree, hot coffee in lap, wife/husband wanting the trash taken out, etc) Sometimes even a computer mishap is possible.

Leaving a game because things are going badly I would not do so myself. This because of reasons also stated before: being courteous, a chance to learn, bad luck can change (it seldom does, but it's possible)

If someone wants to play just one game, it's fine with me, he wants to play the strong side, also fine, he wants to win, fine also, but I will do my best not to let that happen.

Live and let live I say.

I agree with alot of what you say.
However, I have a few people on my ignore list, but for each one of them, I still know the reason why.

- One was using profanities in the little chat box that I would not like to repeat in here. He did this while handily avoiding the auto-mute by replacing certain letters in the words by numbers that resemble them.
- 3 players are because at the start of the first game, they promised a rematch, but didn't give one. I contacted them over the private messaging system, and I have tried to invite them to the rematch when they were online on another day. If that still did not result in a response, I blacklisted them. I don't mind people not playing the rematch, and I don't mind taking the weaker side for that one game, but people should not promise that they would play the rematch if they wont. Especially if their career shows they play one game matches all the time, and always with the stronger side.
- One player was because of this: after a very long first game, the second game had been taking forever. My opponent needed only one medal, and I had no way to get a win from that game. I had one infantry unit with one figure and no retreat, but my opponent claimed he did not have the cards to take it out. I asked my oppoent if he could play a bit faster, because I almost had to go and he was playing really slowly. The result was that he started playing even more slowly. After the game, in replay I saw that he had been holding barrage the whole time and could have taken out that one unit whenever he wanted. He earned himself a blacklist too.

So I don't like to blacklist players (I'm here to play after all), but I am happy that for some rare cases it is possible.

On the other hand, my blacklist is mine. I will not give their names to others to blacklist them.

One final remark: check your own behaviour before writing badly about others. If you see the career page of certain players complaining in here about others, it's not really a testimony of their own fair play ....

My first post, seems like a good place to start since this was one of the first things I noticed in my still budding career. I too have suffered from my computer locking up, and I hope I have not offended anyone. It requires a complete power/cycle reboot, which can take 5+ minutes. A couple of my opponents have actually stuck around, playing slowly and allowing me to rejoin. I thank them for their patience. One even lost to Johnny; I'm especially sypathetic to him as Johnny seems to roll about 20% more hits than I do.
But there are some gratuitous knuckleheads out there, and a quick ignore is fair. You can still see them online, and if they keep their 5 star rating I un-ignore them later. Usually the anti-social players take care of themselves; this is a very adult group overall. Evil is a hard character flaw to keep secret for long. 9 times out of 10, a disconnect is just a minor annoyance. Thanks to all of you for your patience if I run into you online and the game gets dropped. I never quit, and only whine a little. See you all on the battlefield.
But I would like to see a medal for anyone who makes it onto 100 Ignored lists! They could remove it by apologizing to the 100!

Welcome to the Forums, my friend.

If you've been having connection problems, it's good to mention that to an opponent, and assure him that you'll come back after any disconnect, before starting the game.

I'll see you online.

I'm not in charge of your fun, but I think that some of us are worrying too much about this. Blacklisting? Really? Having somebody skip out of a game happens very infrequently. At least to me. Maybe five times since I began playing. Always low ranks too. I can't say that it bothered me much. OTOH, I really don't understand why anyone would skip out. After all, this is a "beer and pretzels" game and there's a lot of luck involved. I have lost horribly to bad dice rolls only to replay the scenario with someone else and kick butt with incredible rolls! That's the nature of this game.

Promising a rematch and then not kipping the word (and not sending a private message or not responding to my own) happened to me 26 times so far, with 26 different players. Some of them are Colonels nowadays...
I'll mark as 'ignore' anyone who provides me an unpleasant experience out of 'bad' behavior or attitude. It's not a matter of punishment or pride or being a rules-lawyer: I just prefer to excuse me from playing with someone who will likely bring me an unpleasant time. That simple.
Plus, while I don't expect everyone to be nice in here, I expect everyone to keep certain standards of social interaction.
The whole issue is a matter of personal expectations and that varies dramatically from person to person.

Well said. It's a personal thing. If you aren't having fun playing with someone what's the point of playing. If you want to "ignore" someone that you don't like playing with that makes perfectly good sense to me. But to have DOW get involved makes no sense to me at all.
