Most fun I've had since Panzer General

Great game - and I've only been playing the AI!
I used to own a bunch of the Avalon Hill games as a kid, and as an adult tried many turn-based computer war games. Too many of them got mired in moving a thousand pieces, but Panzer General and PG II were great!
I'm digging this game for the same reason. Fast paced, fun game play.

Glad you like the game. It's fun you made this comparison, as we are all huge fans of Panzer General; we even once had the pleasure of having Joel Billings himself call us up when Memoir '44 the boardgame came out

Another Avalon Hill gamer. Hello & Welcome Good Sir.
I own a bunch of A-H games and enjoy/enjoyed playing them.
My favourite is the Attack on Malta that came in Air Assault on Crete.
Memoir44 is simple and quick to play, but I do hanker for a good A-H game from time to time.

Let me add to the applause, guys!
Thankyou for bringing my favorite boardgame online!
I hope you'll get lots of people playing, and that they will pick up the board game as well.

I still play the good old Panzer General, every now and then.
But it's running in DOS and is harder to get it running smoothly more and more.
PC's nowadays are just to fast for it...

I have a collection of old PCs. An XT, a 386, 486, 586, and a variety of pentium onwards laptops.
I began programming as a career on DOS 3.1 on XTs.
I know all about processor speed. Many bugs showed up when programs were run on faster PCs, sometimes the hard disk or network write/speeds didn't keep up. When we went to threaded programs synchronisation was more of an issue.
Those were the days. 640K ram in 64K blocks, shuffling drivers into upper memory, the tricks to maximum memory.

Panzer General was an excellent game and it doesn't run at all on my new computer.
Memoir is IMHO a good fun game with a war element (I like the historical connection)
Close Combat was good too, I miss that, mostly 4 (Bulge) and 5 (Normandy)
As for a good minature game this is my real hobby: http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=53&art_id= 2305

Good news for Panzer General fans, Slitherine Games is releasing an updated version called 'Panzer Corps'. Found out about it on the 'Matrix Games' website. Screen shots available there to confirm it is the PG we once loved.

I'm not a Panzer General fan (yet, though nothing will take the place of Memoir '44 for me) but do you have a link for us? I would be interested to see pictures of the new game.

The best place to see more about the Panzer Corps game is:
http://panzer-corps.com/
When I say your remarks that a remake of PG is in the making, I got worried. I did like PG and PG II but the "3d" versions after that didn't cut it.
What I see here look good ...

I can't get the game to run, it says that "PG3Rendr.dll" is missing. What can I do about this?

I own Panzer Corps, Unity of Command and Decisive Campaigns.
Very good games.
We can try some online battles...
|
I'm about half way through all the Panzer Corps Grand Campaigns, playing concurrent Eastern Front, Western Front, and desert campaigns.
I also done most of the Unity of Command scenarios and have been working through the campaigns. Fantastic game.
Decisive Campaigns (WtP and Case Blue) are beasts. I've gotten through a few small campaigns successfully and am currently doing Poland. The large campaigns are a bit overwhelming but I want to try one. Game system is great...

I now managed to get the game to run and started to play the Koniev campaign, but there must still be something wrong. My units are not being upgraded, and there is little chance of winning Kursk with obsolete BT and T26 tanks against Panthers and Tigers.

Loved PG and Pacific General but you do not really need to fiddle around trying to get the old Panzer General working..
Just get the demo for Panzer Corps from Matrix games everything that the old PG was and more!

Okay, so I dumped PG III (as it wouldn't work properly anyway) and bought Panzerkorps (core game, Afrikakorps and Grand Campaign 39-42) ... runs just great and seems to be a very good adaptation of the classic PG.
BUT ... starting with the 1939 Poland campaign (from the GC expansion) and playing the "Posen" scenario, I was shocked to see that the ignorant and incompetent creators of this map used the present border between Germany and Poland, not that of 1939! So what we have here is the Wehrmacht invading Germany, crossing the Oder to attack Breslau! Only a complete moron could be capable of such a major historical mistake. Sorry, but this is a huge turn-off!

I've just downloaded the demo and will try Panzer Corps in the next few days. I'm afraid my very limited knowledge will not allow me to judge the historical aspects of the game, but having considered the PG series one of the best of all time, I hope I will enjoy it as well.

In the latest patch, the "German Border Bug" has been somewhat remedied by renaming several cities (although this now has the Oder river flowing in some strange directions).
In any case, I'm now not only a M44, but also a "Panzer Corps" addict, having purchased every available expansion and currently playing the Grand Campaign '42. For June, the "Allied Corps" expansion has been announced. We will see if DoW can do anything to match this challenge ...

Is this the same Panzer General that was put out by SSI for Play Station 1 about 15 to 20 years ago? There also was another game called Allied General for the same system.
Thanx for your tmme.

Panzer Corps is a remake of the original Panzer General with lots of new changes.
They are beta testing Allied Corps right now and plan to bring it out this June.
