2 accounts for one person, allowed? Sat, 30 April 2005 22:19
I have one extra web card left. With pilke account I first played very bad, so I would like to make a new account before 5th of may. With that account I would like to learn how easy it is to collect score in the beginning and a little bit learn how the system works in 20 first games. (I might also try to get to top 100 or 20, if I have energy to it)

So am I allowed to do a second account? I can tell in this thread what the name of the account is.

If you think that it is not allowed and fair, I can put the card as a 4th web card in pilke account, it's ok that way too. My husband hasn't been playing lately (much at least), so he doesn't need the card.

------------------------------------------------------------ ----
..and a little bit about an other topic..
In an other thread I told I mostly play in a "kind" way with no blocking. Now after getting close enough to my goal (target score was 1800, had 1799 for a short time), I have changed my attitude to score and might try riskier playing style too with a little more blocking. I want to learn to play against blocking playing style, so you are welcome to block me too. In past 30 games I have had many nice games for example with you Rek18, thekid, Natural1der, léachris, jessey14, ulrich99 and Zugbegleiterin.
Thank you for nice and challenging game company Smile

While I can't answer for days of wonder, I know a number of people have two accounts. I personally have played two accounts for a very long time. One started as a guest account to experiment with. Both of my accounts (the other one tentatively Minnesota Fats) are in the top 50 and I would happily open the games/log history to both of them. I've always just played with the account that has the lowest ranking (I don't know why). Anyways, I think the only thing people are concerned about is cheating. As long as your not doing anything dishonest, I don't see why anyone would care.
Just my opinion.

I agree. My wife has a paid account (Kimber) we got from purchasing Queen's Necklace. I use the Kimber account to play QN and she uses it to play TTR, although sometimes I use it for TTR and she uses the SKMorefield (this either because we are too lazy or forget to log out and log back in). We play each other on TTR also sometimes, me at work and her at home... I won the first 2 or 3 but as she has gotten better she has won the last 2, and has begun moving up the rankings in her own right. What a great teacher I am!! Very Happy

At any rate, in my opinion also the main thing is not doing anything dishonest. It's amazing how much good just having the games log history opened will accomplish.

Thank you br'er rabbit and SKM for answering [By the way, I would like play some more with you some day].

So I made a new account. I am now "tiuku" too. Picture of a "tiuku" can be found in Ticket to Ride online gameboard under the zoom sign, so "tiuku" means a tiny bell. My other account "pilke" means "twinkle" in finnish language.

..and if someone of you top100 players doesn't want to play with me because of my low score, you can ask me to change to my pilke account, I'll do it happily:)

Geez, you whooped up on me twice in a row the other day as Pilke but I only lost 4 points total for it... why would I want to play your low account and lose 14?? Rolling Eyes You'll probably have to beat up on some unwitting Spielers first. Smile

I have a feeling you'll get the account up there pretty fast though!

Can't wait to play Pilke again soon... need revenge!

Yes, this is what I meant about writing fairness of making the account. I thought that if I make it, it's at least fair of me to tell you the name. That way you can avoid the account, if you want.

I much more want to play with you top 100 ranked players, than want tiuku up. So please just ask me to change the account if you see tiuku, so I can play with you as pilke.

Tiuku might not get any use if I keep seeing you top ranked people so often as I have seen in past week. Maybe online tournament has made people more active. Thank's for arranging it.

Yes, you can use multiple web cards to open multiple accounts, as long as you do not use those multiple accounts simultaneously to cheat (either by using one account to observe someone else's hand while playing with the other account, or one of the account as a dummy hand to trip opponents up).

However, with the new web card system going live May 5th, there is an incentive for using the web cards on the same account instead. That is because the web cards durations are now cumulative. So,

if you have 2 web cards on the same account, you will get 12 months worth of play time, where as if you split them over two accounts you will instead get 6 months of play time (albeit on two accounts).

So... my recommendation would be, in most cases, to register all the web cards under the same account (to maximise the duration of your play privileges) and if you want a second account (to discover a new game for instance, w/o it impacting your future ranking), to simply use a guest account.

I said earlier (br'er rabbit)on this thread that my 2nd account was Minnesota Fats. I'm tired of all of the questions about whether or not I'm from Minnesota. I've changed it to Fond-of-a-short-blonde. My wife says for as much as I play I could at least name my account for her so here it is Wink Anyways, I'm only posting this to keep things honest. I'm sure most of you don't care what on earth I'm talking about.

thanks

I have now started to play with account tiuku. Some people are confused why I have two accounts and some don't know I am pilke. So I lift this thread up, so that they can see who they are playing with. So if you don't want to play with pilke.. avoid tiuku too...

And I heard somebody thought Anu_ is my husband Wink No, she is just a good finnish player who I have learned to know here. Good job Anu climbing up!

I have noticed something funny when I opened games with tiuku account. I play so slowly that people leave me with a bot!! Other top players get that with blocking..... At least I don't get the nasty german words. It is just that I need to concentrate well to play well. It takes time.

What's the deal with this? I've had the same problem. For the longest time I thought people were losing connections and then I realized that they're leaving because I'm taking too long. I must be a lot slower than I think. If I so much as take 30 seconds to choose tickets I have people leave. I didn't realize that we're not allowed to think. I hate it when somebody writes the classic "can you play faster?" like it's a race or something....gosh! (a little Napoleon Dynamite there)

I don't get a chance to play much, but it's weird to see that comment after only 15 seconds of looking. As if all of us have played 1000 times already and can know which tickets will work for us right away. If the game didn't say "Fast game", I assume the other players want to think and plan out their moves. So much pressure for a casual game!

3rd account Sun, 05 June 2005 22:12
The husband of my very good long time friend has account "sieni", that is opened in september 2004 and has 3 webcards in it. He said that he is not going to play with the account and that I can use "sieni" for training if I want. I thought that it is not good to train with my friends with pilke or tiuku, because I might get undeserved points, because we make rules for training. So I desided to take the offered account to my training use about 2 weeks ago. I play with it only training games against people that I know and who want to train with me by using guest accounts.

Unfortunately in the beginning of the account I won a lot when practising and the account got quite a good score. I don't want to have 3 good score accounts that are taking ranking places from others (I am already planning to start to play 3-5 player games, to get tiuku down). So after 13 games I made a rule to my playing that would cause me losing more. But still after 21 games sieni is ranked 79 with score 1574. If somebody is bothered about that good ranked 3rd account, I don't mind if DOW people want to make the score of sieni lower.

you must be kidding! right?

why don't you just get 20 accounts? then you will be sure to have 20 of the top 50 spots.

this joke must have an end.

that is my opinion to all other multiple (personalities) account holders.

Re:3rd account Mon, 06 June 2005 01:35
Sorry Jac, I really am. But still I think that it is much more fair of me to use separate account for training. I would use a guest account, like my friends do, but we just couldn't get the games open that way.

We just love DoW games Smile And it gives 7 webcard to my use (pilke 3, tiuku 1, sieni 3), when the rest play only with a real board. And I am not going to waste the cards. I would have used tiuku's webcard to pilke, if someone had disagreed when I asked about making it beforehand.

Tiuku will be equivalent to my skills of 3-5 player game. Which I guess, aren't very good. Like I told earlier, I will start to play 3-5 player games with it. And I don't yet know, how interested I am in playing of those. So I think tiuku might have an end after one webcard. Tiuku is soon not bothering most of the good rank people, because they mostly don't play 3-5 player games.

Sieni isn't bothering any body with open games. Like I said in the post. I will play only against non-ranked guest accounts with it. And only with people who want to train with me. (Thank's for you who want Smile) And like I said, I don't mind at all if the dow people make the score of sieni smaller.

Obviously Pilke is being honest here and I know we all appreciate that, but you raise a valid and good point. What if either Pilke or thekid, the 2 current top players, suddenly decided that the 1 and 2 spots weren't enough for them and they wanted to split up the top 10 spots between them?

Sure they wouldn't do that or they already would have, but they do have the ability, and if they had the desire, spare cash, and the time they could. The question is, what if someone came along in the the future who had the combination of skill, desire, money, and time, and wanted to dominate the top 10 spots? Would this be ethical and would DoW allow it?

I understand this is a hypothetical, but it, at least theoretically, COULD happen.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with multiple accounts if someone wants a training account or (especially) one to use for multiplayer. Multi-player is almost an entirely different game anyway.

But I'm beginning to get more and more uneasy with 2nd and 3rd accounts for top players, especially as they seem to be growing. To me it is at least borderline unethical, although I don't think any of the top multiple account holders mean anything bad by it.

The rankings, I think, should measure the individual in comparison to other individuals, not various accounts/personalities of a few individuals.
