The Federation Francaise Memoire 44 (FFM44) and the Memoir Online League will be holding a 2014 "world championship" tournament for Memoir Online for four top players.

You can read updates about it here on this thread. I've started a similar thread on the League's boardgamegeek.com Forum, at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1162372/m44ol-final-four -tournament-world-championship-2.

See below for details.

Here's a short summary of the tournament.

The tournament will take place, online, in June. The four contestants will be the Memoir Online League's Season 11 champion, the winner of a match between the Leagues Season 9 and 10 champions (Sauron93 vs VCX1302), and two top finishers from la Federation Francaise Memoire 44's recent "Championnat Officiel OnLine du jeu Mémoir'44" (or "COOL").

The four contestants will play a round robin with one 2-game match against each of the other three players.

For the championship, the two top finishers from the round robin will then play a set of three 2-game matches. The other two contestants will play the same three scenarios to determine third and fourth places.

Prizes (generously donated by FFM44): All four contestants will receive a copy of the new D-Day Landings expansion and a special badge next to their names on the DOW Forums. In addition, the Champion will receive a Master Pack of gold for Memoir Online.

Full French rules are posted on the COOL website at http://cool-ffm44.forumactif.org/t1562-principes-et-reglemen t-du-m44ol-final-four-tournament-world-championship-2014 .

I'll post an English translation below, on this thread. (If I make any mistakes, I'll trust you francophones to correct me.)

M44OL FINAL FOUR TOURNAMENT - WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2014

1. General principles for the " M44OL World Championship "

The FFM44 and Memoir League OnLine (MOL) wish to hold an annual online tournament recognized by the global community of players of Memoir '44 and awarding the title "M44 Online Best Player of the Year."

The organizers of this are jointly Sam1812 and "Mastergo-Team du Sud."

This first edition will be an experiment with the format for the encounter. Qualification rules will therefore evolve in future editions. Based on feedback from this first experience, the organizers will propose to other partners that may be interested (including FFM44 ) extending this to other competitions. This will be done no later than December of the year N- 1.

In this spirit, for this initial 2014 edition, the tournament will bring together 4 players from the two major M44OL tournaments that exist today.

2.The M44OL WC 2014

For the year 2014, the M44OL WC will be called the " Final Four Tournament M44OL " (M44OL FFT).

It will be under the auspices of the FFM44 and will consist of only four players:

- The top 2 finishers in the "EXCELLENCE" division of COOL 2014,
- The winner of the MOL Season 11, and
- The winner of the playoff between the winners of MOL Season 9 and Season 10.

3. Sequence of FFT M44OL

The tournament will take place in two phases.

The first phase include the 4 players (A, B, C, D) playing a round robin of 2-game matches in the following format:

Scenario 1: A vs B and C vs D
Scenario 2: A vs C and B vs D
Scenario 3: D vs A and B vs C

A random draw will determine which players are declared A, B, C and D.

After this first phase, the players will be ranked by the number of medals won by each player in the three scenarios played (6 games). Ties will be decided based on the number of games won, and if still tied, then the number of destroyed figures that will break the tie. And perfect equality, a new match will be held between the two players, on the same basis.

The second phase will be the Finals phase:

Championship Match: The 1st and 2nd place finishers from Phase 1 will meet for 2-game matches at three successive scenarios (6 games in total) to determine the Champion and Runner-Up of the tournament. [Note from Sam: These games don't all have to be played on the same day.]

Small final: The 3rd and 4th will meet on the same three scenarios for 3rd and 4th places in the tournament.

As in Phase 1, the winner of the Final will be the one who has scored the most medals at the end of the 3 scenarios played (6 games). Ties will be broken by the number of games won, and then by the number of figures destroyed. In case of a perfect tie, a new match will be held between the players on the same basis.

All scenarios required for this competition will be Official scenarios or Scenarios From The Front designed by jdrommel. They will not be revealed to the players until 1 June 2014.

The competition will take place according to the following schedule:

The first phase of 5 to 20 June 2014
Championship Match and small finals: from June 21 to 30

Reports on the competition will be posted on the COOL forum (http://cool-ffm44.forumactif.org/) and will be relayed by Sam1812 on forum DOW M44OL English and Mastergo on the DOW forum Memoire 44 Online - Francais.

If authorized by the two players competing, their game will be broadcast on COOL TV.

4. Prizes awarded by FFM44 to the players

FFM44 will send to each of the 4 contestants a copy of the new expansion D-Day Landings.

The Champion will also receive a Major Pack, ie currently 2,400 ingots, which also allow access to Expert Mode and the scenario editor.

In addition, special badges will also be created by Duncan Idaho for these 4 players to be identifiable on the DOW Forums.

5. Some additional rules

Treatment of disconnections

In case of disconnection of a player, the game will continue in any event, with the "robot" AI then taking the place of the player time to disconnection up to the end of the current game. However we ask as a rule of conduct, the player still connected to wait for at least 10 minutes minimum before proceeding with his next turn (to allow time for his opponent to reconnect, if possible).

If it is a disconnection during the second game of a pair, count the result of the game concluded against the bot as the result of that game.

If it is a disconnection during the first game of a pair, the player continues that game against the bot and makes a new appointment with his opponent for the return game.

Publication of results of matches

The player whose name is first mentioned in a meeting (Example: Mastergo / Sam, Mastergo is listed as player 1) has the responsibility to publish the results of his meeting with his opponent in the following format:

Player 1 (Allies) / Player 2 (Axis) = P1 Medals-P2 Medals / Fig. destroyed by P1-Fig. destroyed by P2
Player 1 (Axis) / Player 2 (Allies) = P1 Medals-P2 Medals / Fig. destroyed by P1-Fig. destroyed by P2

example:
Mastergo (Allies) / Sam (Axis) = 6-3 / 19-17
Mastergo (Axis) / Sam (Allies) = 2-6 / 12-21

Player 2 will also validate the score for the match is recorded.

Validation of Player 2 is not necessary if Player 1 publishes the screen print of the results of the 2-game match. In case of non-validation, the M44OL FFT Arbitration Committee -- consisting of Sam1812, Mastergo, and Hydrommel -- will meet and make a final decision about the score of the match.

Selection of sides

The player whose name is listed first in the game (Player 1) will play Allies during the first game of the match.
