Some Questions about using Skags Thu, 29 January 2015 12:59
I just purchased the expansion A Spider's Web, and a couple of questions have come to mind about how Skags work that I'd like to address before they come up in a game. If possible I'd like to get an official DoW ruling. Any help?...

Question #1: Skags versus Elves
When Elves conquer Skags and come across a Skag Attack loot marker, do they lose a token to the tray like other races? Since the Elves' ability is worded "when an enemy conquers one of your regions," I'm anticipating that their race ability does not apply... but in a sense it IS a conquest loss.

Question #2: What happens to attacking tokens after a failed conquest?
Regardless of whether the attacker is using Elves or not, it is likely that the failed conquest will result in surviving attacking race tokens. Are they set aside until redeployment, not to be used for conquest again this turn?

Question #3: How do loot markers in abandoned regions work?
The rules specifically say that loot markers are left behind when Skags abandon a region, but what happens when opponents conquer an empty region with a loot marker? Does it get flipped and resolved as usual? Are Skag Attack loot markers still functional traps even when the region is unoccupied?

Thanks in advance to whomever can help. Smile

EDIT:

Bonus question!
How Skags affect Elves is not 100% certain to me, but Pygmies clearly state that the die is rolled to generate new Pygmies every time their owner loses a Pygmy race token (regardless of how it happened). Before Skags, there was no way (that I know of) for the Pygmies to lose a Pygmy token on their own turn, so the following question never came up. In the Skags' case, though, it finally came up:

If Pygmies use their race ability to regain some race tokens following the loss of a token to a Skag Attack loot marker, are those regained Pygmies immediately ready to conquer a different region, or should they be withheld from attack during their first turn in play?...

A Spider's Web was designed by Kickstarter backers, hopefully they will read this thread and post a reply. Nowadays demanding support directly from Days of Wonder on these forums is the same as expecting the void to give you answers. Pigs might fly, though, pigs might fly...

While I admit I was hoping for an official reply, hearing responses from fellow players is welcome. I also figured there was the off chance than a fellow player could point me to an official ruling.

Perhaps I'll email DoW customer help directly. Some people have gotten results that way.

Skags, as wel as Soul-Touch were designed by Randy Pitchford, president, CEO and co-founder of Gearbox Software. He is a public figure and you can address him directly. His Twitter is @DuvalMagic. He is definitely a busy man, but I am sure he would be glad to answer all the questions. I would, if I were him. Our creations are like our children, bringing them to life is not enough, we must be responsible for their adaptation.

I wasn't sure how much the actual backers put into the design aspect; I figured if they wanted to they could just summarize an idea and leave DoW to design and treat it.

I suppose I could dust off my ancient, untouched Twitter account long enough to Tweet at him. Smile
