Announcing "No Surrender" - Merry Christmas to the M44 Community Sun, 20 December 2015 20:51

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

A bunch of elves at the Memoir League have been busy with a surprise Christmas present for the M44 community.

The Battle of the Bulge was being fought this week in 1944. In commemoration, we've put together "No Surrender", a booklet of new Breakthrough scenarios featuring the Bulge, along with Guadalcanal and other maps. We'll be releasing it via a post here in the forums later this week as our gift to the community.

A sneak preview of "No Surrender" is included below.

I hope that you'll join me in thanking Sam1812, Tank Commander, Buidheo, and of course Gonzalan for their key contributions developing and testing the maps. This wouldn't have happened without them.

Above all, we want to acknowledge Richard Borg and Days of Wonder for creating Memoir '44 and supporting it with a long list of expansions.

Thank you, and once again...Merry Christmas to ALL!!

See you when we post the finished booklet this week!

And now, here's the preview...

It was a pleasure to help make this possible and hats off to those who did the lion's share of the work to get this out. Great job!

One of the BEST things about this game experience is the never-ending giving done here. The support, free stuff, and comradery is quite refreshing in a world where we are forever surrounded by corporate greed and selfishness.
Thank you and happy holidays to everyone involved!!

I figured sooner or later that a triple Breakthrough map of the Battle of the Bulge would be produced. This battle is ideal for that set up. You could play one, two or all three maps with 2 and up to 8 players. It would be easier to set up and play than the Overlord expansion, and still be epic.

I've been working on the exact same thing for months. I was going to spring it on everybody at next year's WBC. I can't wait to see how yours turns out. With so many great players aiding in the project, I'm sure it will be fantastic.

Set up St Vith and Bastogne scenarios over the weekend and was well short of road and frozen river tiles. Also used city ruins for towns. I have 2 x Eastern Expansion, 1 x Terrain, 1 x Winter Wars. Though that would be enough.

The terrain for these battles requires plenty of roads and rivers so there's a fair amount of setup! And you'll need one Winter Wars expansion for each board... I go ahead and substitute plain roads and rivers when I'm short of winter roads or river tiles.

Cheers!

Yeah, I did that and joked that the right board had seen a thaw! But I've now bought a second Winter Wars - the extra Breaktrough deck will come in handy for the D-Day Landing scenarios.

But I will say that your scenarios do take a long time to play. The Winter Weather and Reduced Visability along with not being able to cross the river on the German side means you're often rolling 1 die and hoping for a grenade. I did use Forest hexes where they interupt rivers as crossing points too.
