Claiming Long Routes

Hi,
Just played a game of TTR Europe. At the end of the game a player was claiming their long route between Edinburgh and Athina by saying the station they had on Essen and the station they had on Wien meant they completed the route.
We know the rule that you can claim the route from two stations both ways to Berlin if this is your destination using other players trains between Essen and Berlin and Wien and Berlin.
The issue that arose was whether they can claim the long route when they had none of their own trains between Essen and Wien? Don't the stations only allow them to go to Berlin from Essen and stop at Berlin and likewise go to Berlin from Wien and stop in Berlin?
For example:
Amsterdam to Essen - B (Blue) B B
Essen - Blue Station
Essen to Berlin - R (Red) R
Berlin to Wien - G (Green) G G
Wien - Blue Station
Wien to Budapest - B
Interested in others thoughts to clarify.

It seems a little unclear what "claiming a route" means in this thread's discussion. "To claim a route" normally means to hand in the required 1-8 train cards and placing 1-8 trains in one's own colour.
If blue player at the end of the game has claimed all routes Edinburgh–Essen and Wien–Athína, blue player has fulfilled her ticket and is rewarded the points (20 or 21, whatever it is).
When the 10 bonus points for longest continuous route are rewarded, however, blue player can not count Essen–Wien as part of that route. Her route is broken into two separate pieces (and they might of course form part of her longest continuous route).

When you place a station in any city, it allows you to claim a single route in or out of that city. There is nothing in the game rules which prevents you from using stations to bridge the gap in your continuous route and claim the “longest route”.
As a matter of fact, the recently released Alexa app, does use stations to bridge routes and claim the “longest route”.
On the other hand, it can be agreed before the start of the game as to how to interpret this undocumented “rule”.

Actually it's quite clear in the rules. Look in the Ticket to Ride: Europe rule book. If you look under the section about Calculating Scores on page 7 you'll see that it says:
Quote: | Finally, give the 10 point bonus for the European Express to the player(s) who have the Longest Continuous Path on the board. When evaluating and comparing path lengths, only take into account continuous lines of plastic trains of the same color. A continuous path may include loops, and pass through the same city several times, but a given plastic train may never be used twice in the same continuous path. Stations, and the opponents’ routes they may provide access to, do not count for the purpose of computing paths and claiming the longest one. If several players are tied for the longest path, they each receive the 10 point bonus from the European Express card.

so a lot of people are thinking of the bonus longest train which the train stations block but if i am understanding it right she had the long blue ticket card and she was claiming she had finished and according to what you said she is right as long as she only uses the train station thing one time from one city to another she is fine

I'm afraid I don't follow.
Like I said, the rules are very clear about this:
Quote: | Finally, give the 10 point bonus for the European Express to the player(s) who have the Longest Continuous Path on the board. When evaluating and comparing path lengths, only take into account continuous lines of plastic trains of the same color. A continuous path may include loops, and pass through the same city several times, but a given plastic train may never be used twice in the same continuous path. https://www.daysofwonder.com/en/msg/?goto=370787#msg_370787
or confirm that is not a bug at all. which means if two(or more) players tied on points at the end and none of them has a +10 card for the longest train, the longest continuous path(without a +10 card) is still the 2nd tiebreak rule for those tied players.

Hello Stason,
I don't have an official answer for you but based on the official rules for TTR, it's possible that there would be a tie. For a game in your living room or dining table, this isn't a big deal but for the online game where people are playing ranked games it creates a dilemma.
My guess is that "the Longer Route" is the online tie breaker but I don't know that for sure. I don't believe it's a bug.

According to official rules that should have been a tie, but wasn't a case obviously if we look at the points distribution. Then how that can not be a bug?
Who then if not you can give an official answer to that? Who else can I ask for a clarification? I've sent those screenshots 2 years ago via an official DOW link and got no kind of reaction.

Yes, according to the rules of the tabletop game it would be a tie. My point is that the online version has ranking linked to it so my guess is that the 'longer route' was used as a tiebreaker for the online game. I wouldn't be surprised if there's even a further tie breaker coded into the game in case (by some chance) this one was also a tie.
Your most direct answer will be from the development team using this form: https://asmodee.helpshift.com/a/ticket-to-ride/?contact=1
Good luck!
