15th Anniversary Europe edition.. No warehouses/depots. Are they worth it? Mon, 25 January 2021 21:02
I have the standard Europe edition already and was about to order the 1912 expansion..

I already have every single other expansion for US and other versions so this is the last one. The only things I don’t have are Alvin & Dexter and Marklin. (I have Germany so not too fussed about a second hand Marklin)

As I own the 10th anniversary (awesome) splendid version of US TTR, I am excited about the Europe 15th and definitely going to buy it.

BUT. I will still be missing the Depots and warehouses. Looks like I would still need to get the 1912 expansion anyway.

So.... are the depots and warehouses worth getting? Should I still get Europa 1912? Do people use them for Europe or other versions when they play?

Oh. Incidentally I bought these AMAZING 3D printed trains for my regular maps as only the USA 10th Anniversary map comfortably takes the slightly upsized trains from this box set.
Indeed, I prefer the 3D printed ones to the 10th anniversary and have the full set including boats for rails and sails. I use them for all my games (except the 10th Anniversary larger board)

Looks like I will still need these as the Europe 15th anniversary has the same upsizing so the fancy new trains won’t fit our regular maps.

My answer is a simple no. No, they are not worth it. Some might like them, but the only time we tried them, they broke the game. Okay, that was partly because one of us made one bad decision. That, however, immediately decided the game and the rest was only a struggle to finish the game as soon as possible, as it was no longer fun. (Like losing your queen early in a chess game. In chess, however, you are allowed to just give up ...)

One of the nice parts of a basic Ticket to Ride game, is that one instance of bad luck or bad tactics doesn't make you lose the game. Here, that could happen.

Is one play only "anectodal evidence"? Of course it is, so what is said above, is just one person's conclusion. Smile

Good to know.
I read the 1812 rules and concluded it added an interesting and clever mechanic, but perhaps an unbalanced over complication.

(A bit like placing the coloured tracks on the France Map expansion as far as I am concerned. )

I have pre-ordered the 15th anniversary Europe box and look forwards to it as the similar 10th Anniversary US is a delight with the larger board, slightly larger trains and the twee aesthetics only enhancing the game

I do think the colours of the Europe 15th anniversary are less vivacious or fun as they should have been.

Fuscia pink I like!
Brown and grey? A bit boring!
