Holy Moses,

All so active. Will try to catch up. First some Q&A.

- RFAD, erps is right. The best-of-five will be effectuated. I can imagine it's nice to have five chances to beat a top player, but statistically playing on after 3-0 is pretty useless. The rule wasn't invented to protect the stronger player, but to avoid playing useless games.

- RFAD, the lineup rule is the same as last year. Justice was served here, as I haven't heard any better rule so far.

- thadd, I sent Franck a PM now about the TD-account. I will change the name of the thread later today.

- RFAD, erps, thadd, the Anti-Bot Rule works as erps described. About erps's criticism: like he stated himself it's hard to make a better rule. I'll give you 2 evil players.

Evil player 1 draws lousy tickets. Since he knows the rules, he starts to draw cards like a maniac. Once his opponent keeps up the pace, he silently disconnects. Unknowing about what happened, his opponent plays on and all that remains is convince the TD to at least have a replay.

Evil player 2 sees his opponent disconnected at some point. He plays some turns yet to turn the game, which he was losing, to his advantage. Later he claims that he didn't see his opponent leaving and feels that the least he should get is a replay, if not a "win by judge".

I think everyone understands one can't make rules for players 1 AND 2. The only thing that remains to be said is that I hope player 1 as well as player 2 won't join our tournament.

If worst comes to worst, our TD can take a wise decision in case player 1 or 2 shows up.

By the end of today, I'll have the rules revised. I will mark the changes somehow so erps and RFAD (danke fürs übersetzen! merci pour traduire!) can change their postings without much trouble. Like thadd said, each captain will have a week from then to read and sign the rules, so we won't have discussions about them during the tournament.

When I have done the changes, I will let you know how it looks like in this forum.

cu, bas

OK, I did the changes in the rules thread and the name of the organisational thread is changed into registrational thread so the TD (thadd) can open an organisational thread.

To erps and RFAD: I did the changes in capitals so it might not be too difficult to change the translations too. I would be delighted if you'd have time to do these changes this weekend.

thadd will open an organisational thread yet, all captains please have a look at that too.

About the rules: players need to know the introduction, paragraph 2.2, and chapter 3. Any questions yet? Did I forget anything?

Hi

Okay we have final rules but i found 2 or maybe 3 errors. I think we should correct them:

1. error

Quote:

11-16: Round robin, 2 groups, with QF, SF and F. #1s choose opponent of other group in QF; cannot meet other #1 in SF, cannot meet best classified of own group in SF.
11: (1,4,5,8,9) and (2,3,6,7,10,11), 9 weeks
12: (1,4,5,8,9,12) and (2,3,6,7,10,11), 9 weeks
13: (1,4,5,8,9,12) and (2,3,6,7,10,11,13), 11 weeks
14: (1,4,5,8,9,12) and (2,3,6,7,10,11,13,14), 11 weeks
15: (1,4,5,8,9,12,13) and (2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15), 11 weeks
16: (1,4,5,8,9,12,13,16) and (2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15), 11 weeks

It should read
14: (1,4,5,8,9,12,13) and (2,3,6,7,10,11,14), 11 weeks
Because with 14 teams 2 groups with 7 teams make sense Smile

2. error

Quote:

3.7 Anti-Bot Trust
In a game between player A and B, if A is replaced by a bot, B waits till A returns and after that the game resumes, no matter what the bot did. Special cases:

1. After about 5 minutes (give or take), if B hasn't returned, A leaves the game. B has to make sure the game is resumed within 24 hours. If not, the TD rules:

In the first paragraph A and B are switched.

3. error

Quote:

1.2 Some rules
- Team's rank is decided by the sum of ratings of best 6 players as of Wednesday, 6th of September 2006
at 11:00 PM.
3.2 Number of players per team
All teams will have 5-10 participating players.

Rating of best 6 but only 5 players needed?? I think it should read best 5 players.

bye, erps

I did this on purpose. With seven teams in a group one can never compare the scores, really. That annoyed me so I chose this. Because no one ever read it I got no comments... Smile

True, I'll change it. I also changed 1C: "procastinates the RESUMING OF THE game"
and board of captains is TD of course.
the last comment for now Wink

I said six. One could also say five. Or all. It isn't really important. I don't think we'll see teams with only five players. I'll keep it at six if no one else comments. It's only for the division in groups, you know.

Could you please post in the NC2006 Transnationalteam Thread

http://www.daysofwonder.com/index.php?t=msg&th=8100& start=0&rid=&S=609b3bf6565d56e259efcba212cd28bc

And try to contact Dave and Geo, also a belgian player, perhaps you can find some other players in order to organise your Team.

Is it possible to form another team of "Underdogs" people who were not chosen for whatever reason to play on a country's team, or maybe the country's team was quite full enough already?

I have 2 persons interested besides myself in being on a team, and am sure I could get this team up to 5 or 6 players.

Tell me what I should do to proceed, and if it can be multinational "didn't make the cut" people.

I would be serving as captain.

Spudamon accepted to join the TD - team, in order to help me. Only he and I will have access to the TD account. This will be in case if I won't be able to post or reply posts (or PMs) in case of work or other issues.

Hi

This is REALLY getting strange lately. 1 trillion threads in all the forums with players searching other players for a team, but most not from the same country Shocked

Players who were able to join a national team searching for other low ranked players will be answered by top players who search for a own team or SELL themself to the highest bidder! Crying or Very Sad

I offered a possibility to search for fellow country players, but i believe no one is willing to play with other players of the own country... One week left, enough time to write a PM to 10 or 50 players...

A thread in which the captains should respond to accept the rules, meanwhile the forming of teams which are not allowed by the rules Confused

This year the NC should be renamed to TC (team cup)...

sad,

hi erps,

I understand where you are coming from, but I'm not too discouraged. We now have 8 teams, from 6 different countries (really, in terms of TTR, the main countries that MATTER), and the promise of a French team (assuming they get their act together and don't surrender before the registration time. Wink OK OK I know they won last year so don't bother to remind me kotay, but... what have you done lately?? the public has short attention spans you know! Laughing ) and hopefully a DoW team again. That would make 10, which really is a good number and not at all 'boring.' Even now over 60 players are now registered to play in NC, and not one 'world-team' included among them.

Sorry Peter and Onyx, at first I was thinking it was a good idea, but I forgot the rules forbid your entry in a 'world team'. However, nothing is stopping you from recruiting players from your own country to form another team. Also, it might be a good idea for Onyx to join the 2nd USA team anyway if ElSoy is interested because Kimber is only really registered to play if needed.

I understand that the 'spirit of NC' would be in line with a group of 1300 players from Ghana forming a team, but in all reality how competitive would that be? They would be crushed, and not only every clash, but almost every match. It would be like the US trying to form a soccer team and compete internationally... what is the point? Very Happy

(If I were a person from a smaller nation wanting to form a team, my opinion is there should be enough players for the average rating to be at least mid 1400s. This is at least high enough for there to be some good games. Obviously that's just my opinion and not the rules. I could be totally wrong!)

Best,
SKM

Onyx, I would like you to join one of the existing US teams, both don't have that much players at the moment.

Concerning Peter, same as for dave and geo, if they don't get a team, I will put them into an existing team.
So far any other player posted in the new Thread I opened yesterday (macedonian, italian, norvegian). I will wait till monday, and then the leftover players can join existings teams, if there aren't enough players to form a transnational team.

Given the rules, the finnish-swiss team has also no right to exist.

So, as so far nobody complained about them, and now it's too late to complain, I will decide on monday about players, who weren't able to form a team (at the moment I am only aware of Peter, dave and geo).

Hi

I complained Smile

Yes, it is okay to have a finnish - swiss team... But if we accept this we must accept that a player from a country like dutch (e.g. Peter De Zeeuw) that already has a team but is not able to form another should allowed to form a team with players of another nation.

Personally i think it should be:

Onyx is joining an american team, they don't have many players on both teams.

Peter and the Belgians are forming a BENELUX team, maybe with another dutch and 4 Belgians.

All other interested players of different nations form a WORLD TEAM (macedonian, norwegian etc.). Maybe players like Yaron will join this too.

Don't know of the 4th german team yet...

2 american
3 german
1 austrian
1 dutch
1 finn-swiss

2 french (?)
1 benelux
1 world
1 german
1 dow

= 12 to 14 teams. Sounds good

bye, erps

There is the possibilty of a dutch-belgian team, let's wait how many players they will find (at the moment, including Peter, they are 4, try to contact rode katers too).

But if we accept this we must accept that a player from a country like dutch (e.g. Peter De Zeeuw) that already has a team but is not able to form another should allowed to form a team with players of another nation.

Wink Of course this does not apply for JUNIORS not being able to play in their country's team ... does it? Uh Oh

Not a serious question anymore - this discussion is over.
But I just could not resist to mention it one last time .... Rolling Eyes

Hi

Maybe we should prolong the registration phase till friday? I have the feeling there are a few players on the search and it seems to me that there are chances to build some nation teams (canadian?) if they succeed.

Round 1 is starting officially at monday, the 11. september (9/11!!), so i think we have enough time to set the schedule and the pairings if we wait till friday?

And now with (two) TDs the whole "send your lineup to another captain"-crap is not anymore necessary, we win one day of organisation anyway.

Just an idea.

bye, erps

Of course not Smile

Why is a JUNIOR not ABLE to play in your country's team? You have 9 player, 10 are allowed. Twisted Evil I think the austrians have the chance to build 2 teams anyway, i bet there are a few players interested but are not part of the usual vienna connection Wink

Should be no problem for me, but to my understanding the rules are final and some of us undersigned the rules already. The rules say also, that we have to send our first lineup to the TD untill Wednesday 6, 11:00 pm. So if you change the registration phase you have to change that too.
And when you do so change the date for the first lineup to one day after end of registration as for the lineup it is important to know which team you are playing - and that is not clear until the end of registration!

Hi

Oller Masimo Smile, you are right

The registration date and the lineup date are the same, but this is impossible because we don't know the teams at the time we have to send in our line up. That's the reason why our captain has not signed yet...

Oh and for the TC (team cup), make it GC (german cup): We will have 5 teams as it looks now... Smile

At least, nobody of the german players is forced to sell his/her skill on a non existent market Twisted Evil

Tell me Smile How is the price now? 3 webcards? 5?

Okay, members of the community, i have an idea Smile

We need 5 webcards. We open 4 accounts with nationality CHINESE, language english of course Smile Then we build the chinese nation cup team with four members and force Kotay to play with this team offering him the last webcard. I think thadd will agree that the one and only nation Kotay can play for is China...

Ah! And during the nations cup it is clear that the other 4 players are just 1100 ELO players Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Okay, erps... you can stop your machiavelic scenarios Twisted Evil Wink

Because, of course, NO, we won't surrender before taking our brains in our hands ( Rolling Eyes Laughing ), and trying to keep this trophy !
So, you can all forget trying to recruit Kotay !

And you can count with the Red TGV (registration following in a few days)

Cool, Elric is back from the Dead (or whatever). I just looked a little at your discussion in the french forum concerning the name suffix. Should it be cheese or vineyards like last year? I propose you take as suffix the name of GOOD FRENCH SOCCER PLAYERS. Advantage: You can keep your names Very Happy

Well... I'm back, but I'll try to not open again old closed discussions ( Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil ), but I think you (bassie) should modify the rules about the lineup of the first round (like Masimo said).

We need to know all the teams, and first our opponent, before sending the players... so one day after the end of registration to send the first lineup is a good solution, IMO.

Thanks for you answer, bas Smile

We have this deadline since a while ago, I want to stick to this dealine. Teams have still 5 days to register, that's enough time. But if bassie agrees, we can change the deadline of the first lineup.

Hi everyone

Days of Wonder will sponsor the Nation Cup 2006 by offering prizes to the winners.

Note that we hope that the tournament plays flawless: fairplay and courtesy should always be in the players' minds...

In these conditions, we will be offering:
- a game of their choice to each member of the winning team
- A Ticket to Ride PC game to each member of the 2nd team

Party on!

The DoW Team

Salut Franck ! Hi DoW Team !

Sorry, I'm a little late to answer, but not too late, I hope Rolling Eyes

Very happy to see that DOW consider our (very) little community of "top players" (or something like that) with so benevolence, and it's a very very good thing that you decided to sponsor this Tournament... and the prizes are very cool Thumbs Up

Well... if you could consider that we, the Red TGV, winners of the first Nations' Cup, deserve to also have a prize (even very little, even tiny)... it would be a good and fair thing, too Smile

Elric,
"Red TGV" Captain !

(and sorry for my limitated english !)

Haven't got much time to read all but I understand that you're waiting for my permission to send the first lineup one or two days later than the deadline for registering your team, so captains know what they're up against.

No problem.

I would like everyone to start addressing thadd more and more, since after the 6th I will be just a player like everyone and the sooner I can step back the better.

Have fun with the Nations Cup! Smile

Thaaaaaaaadddd... dear TD ??? Very Happy

The complete and definitive list of teams, and each opponent for the first round, will be known next wednesday, the 6th at 11 pm.
What is the limit to send you our first lineup ? One day later ? Or two ? Or something else ?

Thanks for your answer, ma chère Smile

What about taking the registration deadline to tuesday 5th of september and the lineup for wednesday 6th of september. So I can post the first lineup on thursday and you can start to play.

Or we keep the wednesday, 6th of december as registration deadline and the first lineup has to be sent in thursday, 7th of september.

DoW, don't forget to register!!! There is a game for all of you to win! Don't miss that opportunity Wink

Fine with me, thadd. Registration deadline 6th of September, first lineup deadline 7th of September. Same time. Notice that you have to post draws pretty fast. In my schedules, the only draws which have not been posted yet are draws for 9-10 teams and that might be what we're looking at, so be prepared.

I love ruling over my grave.. Wink
