Stiff Upper Lip & Behind Enemy Lines
|

I just had a situation in the online game where I played BEL and moved an anti-tank infantry 3 spaces to attack an armor unit in close assault. I took out all but 1 figure, so my opponent battled back with the Stiff Upper Lip rule. The result was a flag, so I retreated 1 space. After that I was not given the option to take my second move from the BEL card.
Is this how it should have happened, or is this a bug?

A BUG, you should still get your second move. Best to report it.

For a year now I have reported several bugs and have never had any replies..
I hope someone is actually going to do something with all these reports but I do not have high hopes..
BTW I do agree with Stevens call..

That's what I meant when I complained about a whole year without any update. In my opinion, we deserve at least another bugfix.

It will take some time to confirm this, but I'll add it to my list of errors on wikispaces.

Wouldn't being able to use this w/ an AT Unit a bug?
Did we ever decide whether or not the restriction of ~no move and combat~ is a movement, or combat restriction?...

Using this with an AT Unit is NOT a bug. However, Richard has changed a previous ruling and in the physical version you cannot move and attack with any card.
So the rule in the Online version is still correct simply because up until recently it was the Official rule. I hope I made that clear, but if not let me know.
|
I did not know that. I haven't kept up on the forums for the last few months so I don't know of any recent rulings or happenings in the game. Can you direct me to the thread where this was discussed/changed?

Ok, after much effort setting up a scenario to test the rule:
1/5 chance of drawing BEL on a 12-card hand,
x 58% chance of rolling a miss on 3 dice versus British single artillery figure in sandbags,
x 1/6 chance of Battle Back rolling a flag,
I got it to happen!
It looked for a moment that after my infantry retreated, I could just click on the unit and move it (like normal), but it jumped straight to the end of the turn (normally you have to click on done movement, and done battle, even though there's no 2nd battle) and Johnny played his card.
So the lack of 2nd movement for Behind Enemy Lines after Battle Back retreat roll is a bug.
Please submit a bug report with file containing replay (I don't play to the end in my rules tests).

I think Ricard was stating that an early war SW infantry could not battle if it used BEL. A late war SW infantry could certainly do so.

Correct. Thank you for clarifying that...the Late War SWA units can still battle but they don't get their longer range and they will need Line of Sight. But the change is for Early War SWA.

Also the late war SWA units would not retain their special die roll hit abilities after they moved.

Well, this example was talking about Mortar units which don't get any die roll bonus...but yes, SWA units don't get their bonus (whatever it is) if they move at all.

OK so, perhaps ~ Bug ~ wasn't the correct word...
Where are all the purists ( a la Ambush White Line ) on this? It's ~ different ~ than the board game, but not a ~ problem ~ ?...

Of course it is an outrage that the online rules do not play out as they should, an outrage I tell you.
People run up to my armor units with their SWA guys and I tell them they cannot fire at me, but they destroy my tanks anyway.
This kind of behaviour is intolerable! And indicative of the decline of modern society. (I shall write to the Guardian about it.)

Indeed... Troubling times, what with all of the ~ Ambushes That Really Aren't ~, ~ Bridge Cards Of Two Varieties ~, and ~ TOW Bearing Foot Soldiers Running Around Behind One's Lines As If They Were Carrying Mere Sidearms ~ ...
What's next? ~ Men Falling Through The Ice ~ rather than sidestepping it? Arty commanders unable to coordinate attacks and having to ~ Fire All Of Their Shells Before Another Gun Can Fire ~ ?...
Troubling times indeed... Perhaps portending the mass desertion from M44 Online to V World?...
