I really need one too but I'm a glutton for punishment so I probably won't take one. My wife told me after I lost the first two that I should stop because I get on a (losing) role, but I just kept playing, hoping for the win that didn't come. Like I said, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Yeah, you know that feeling don't you? You feel so timide, scared. You just know you can't win. I had that feeling the whole time.
Sad, isn't it?
Ah well, better luck next time!

unknowniac beat me 4-2 in six great games played in a row.
I had an early 2-0 with two non-blocking games (I had LA-Miami on both), but unknowniac turned the tables with some great interactive games, either blocking my long tickets, or going around my blocks when he had the long ones.
Congratultations, unknowniac, and good luck on your future matches (looks like you might get thekid, so you'll need it :-).

Anyone want to explain to me how I'm supposed to be on at the same time as my opponent? Blind luck?

Arranging it via personal message seems to work for people.

redPEPPER and me concluded our first round today.
Final score
redPEPPER 1 : womble 4
Todays four games:
Game 1: 84 - 127
red had Calgary-Phoenix and Portland-Phoenix
I had Vancouver-St Fe and Chicago-St Fe
I managed to get longest route and won the game by taking more 6es.
Game 2: 72 - 110
red had Seattle-LA (not completed), Montreal-Atlanta, Montreal-New Orleans and St. Marie-Oklahoma (not completed)
I had Calgary-Salt Lake and Portland-Phoenix
I got longest route - red drew cards again right before the game ended.
Game 3: 59 - 119
Red had LA-Chicago and Seattle-NY (not completed)
I had Duluth-El Paso and Duluth-Houston
I took longest route. Red simply forgot to finish Seattle-NY.
Game 4: 111 - 114
Red had Calgary-Salt Lake and LA-NY
I had Helena-LA and Duluth El Paso
Red took longest route and I was simply lucky here.
I hope I got the destinations right this time - if not, please correct me red. Our games were nice and very enjoyable.
Red will post some screenshots.

Game1: http://www.photodump.com/direct/jrupert/RekMila_Game1.jpg
I had Duluth-Houston and Calgary-Phoenix.
Mila had Chicago-NewOrleans, Montreal-Atlanta, Dallas-NewYork.
Mila had awful east coast tickets and the strange blocking in the northwest didn't help. Score 101-86 for me.
Game2: http://www.photodump.com/direct/jrupert/RekMila_Game2.jpg
I had SaultStMarie-Oklahoma and Winnipeg-LittleRock.
Mila had Calgary-SaltLakeCity and Denver-ElPaso.
Mila played for 6s, mostly ignoring tickets. My tickets weren't big enough for this to work, I had time to spare after finishing them. Score 116-106 for me.
Game3: I didn't get a screen shot.
I had Duluth-Houston, Duluth-ElPaso and LA-Miami. I considered dropping the latter with Mila playing for 6s, but needing ElPaso to Houston anyway I decided to chance it.
Mila had Chicago-SanteFe and NY-Atl (awful tickets!)
Mila played for 6s again. Took LA-ElPaso, but I mananged to get into LA and Miami ok, this one wasn't really close. Score 132-81 for me.
Some rough tickets for Mila so far; the competition has been tighter than the 3-0 scoreline might suggest.
Next games are tomorrow at 20GMT.

Thanks Osamu but you deserve your win...
Drawing tickets at the end is part of the game...
By the way I enjoyed playing against you...
Now I just have to train and train again

Well Franck, consider this... at least you didn't get swept. Otherwise you'd end up like me and Peter, sitting in the gutters of Rotterdam eating canned spinach reading comic books. Peter says he's on vacation but he's really still in a drunken stupor. I had to get back on my feet (he'll get there too eventually!) but I put a cardboard box over his head so the rain wouldn't get to him too much.
At any rate, a win (even with the 4 losses) against a top 10 is something to take with you. And, from looking at your record it looks like you have begun to beat your wife more, so you are finally getting your house back in order!!! (er, well... you know what I mean... )

Game 4: http://www.photodump.com/direct/jrupert/RekMila_Game4.jpg
I had Calgary-Phoenix and Seattle-NY.
Mila had Portland-Nashville and Vancouver-SantaFe
For the most part we stayed out of each other's way and I won 128 to 103 with bigger tickets and better path.
On the whole I think I had the better tickets (post-selection at least!) and I got longest path each game. Mila played well and will be a real threat with just a few tweaks to his/her game: If you block it is best if it is on your path, and if you do it, do it with conviction! Get the longest path, in a lot of games with high ranked players this is the deciding factor.

Akrasia,
I would love to play if you would allow me to. I know i might not have the best rank out there, but i have only played just over 200 games and i have faired decent. I don't try to get my rank up by playing sub-par players, i try to play those that are ranked higher than me to see if i can beat them and compete. My rank is moving up, and maybe by the time the tournament starts it will have moved up enough to be counted in. Let me know what you think.
