German tanks pushed over the bridge from Dinant, but were repelled by the entrenched infantry. Limited card on left hand side reduced the opportunity for the tanks to do more on that flank. Meanwhile the allies pushed up their left flank and over the river. The Germans ran a slow but effective campaign with their guns, taking out the allied infantry and later the allied artillery too.
The allied push into Haux was their downfall, they walked into a trap and lost. A close game that ended 6 to 5 in the Germans favour. Alex did comment that I should play more aggressively, though the river makes a highly defensive situation. Tanks should just sit on the bank and shoot across....

Despite a spirited French defense, the Germans secured bridgeheads across the Meuse, and the victory, in 12 turns. The battle opened with the laying of a pontoon bridge north of Dinant, which enabled the Wehrmacht armor and infantry to establish a perimeter they would not relinquish on the far side of the river. The cost was high, however, as four German tanks units eventually succumbed to the French heavy tanks and artillery. By Turn 10, with their left flank secured, the Germans shifted attention to Haux. The French here showed less resilience. A Panzer unit had little difficulty eliminating the French light tanks positioned on the high ground and a Barrage card wiped out a depleted infantry unit to capture the fifth and sixth medals. As a side note, German air superiority proved to be largely inconsequential. The Luftwaffe targeted but could not eliminate the French artillery, which harassed the German army throughout the game.

Allies tried something bold and moved both artillery units forward an into woods sitting between the flanks while the Axis used Recon to call in Air Strikes. Medals were traded back and forth one for one with the Allies bringing in the winning medal.

Axis mobilized armour taking units across Meuse River; infantry support was slow to follow and the armour paid for it losing 2 units before taking out 2 Allied armour and 2 infantry. The remaining battle for metals turned into a unit trade with the Allies picking up an extra before Axis grabbed number 6.

A great victory for the French Army! A first wave on the Germans left flank were stopped by the Allies infantery and artillery. The first German tank was destroyed! Then a second wave on the right German flank brought him a medal through the combination with a firefight before on the infantery next to the village. But the French tanks were in position to destroy the enemy tank! Second medal for the Allies! A lucky roll with the Air Check and the third medal was reached. The tanks and the good positions on the Allies right flank were the way to get two infanteries in exchange to one. The last medal was reached with the help of good shots of the artilleries against the German tank in the Center.

Sustained attacks on the flanks by the Germans meet with strong resistance but once the Germans were able to construct the pontoon bridge in the centre the French had no defense (due to lack of cards for the centre).

Moved my artillery up a few hexes and let loose. The Axis having to go through the towns (and stop) prior to hitting the bridges helped.
I spent some time in the area and visited Dinant and Bastogne a few years ago on vacation. Beautiful part of the world. Conditions when I visited were much better than in 1944/45.

It was wonderful game. We are both had good cards.
Almost battle happened on the Allied Right Flank.
JJAZ bilt a pontoon on his 1st turn. Then Bombardment was done on my right ARTY suffer 1 hit and FLAG. Air Sortie were made along with advance on my right flank.
Arty was wiped on the second sortie.
In the meantime I move my Elite ARM to the right and they were on time.
One turn before JJAZ counter attack my ALL on the right and make huge advance 2 ARM and INF ahead but was unlucky with die to kill 1 fig INF in the town only.
My DFHQ allowed my ARM with support ARTY to wipe ARM near river and INF in the town forced to retreat 1 INF with 2 causalties.
Then was Axs Assault on my left (wipe my INF in the town) and my counter attack with ARM (wipe 1 INF unit).
THen action was transfer on my left. After some arty shooting and ARM manevours I lost 1 unf unit, retreat all my unit from the river with INF Assault in the center. AAssault allow me to destroy 1 ARM penetrated my line on the left.
And TFH from Axis finished the game on the right flank.
It was good game with many movement and fighting.
Thank you JJAZ for good sportsmenship!
Results:
Allied lost INF 14 ARM 4 ARTY 2
Axis lost INF 13 ARM 8

This was game # 2 of a Vassal PBEM match which I win 12 to 5.
I start by firing on the forward Ger Inf in the center and my right. I get two hits on one unit and one hit on another. Sam counters by reducing one of my center panzers to 1 fig. In my next turn, I lay a bridge on my left by the town near the board edge. I kill off one of the center forward sandbagged Inf and reduce the other Inf on my right to 1 fig. I also get a flag and Sam opts out of his sandbags there. In my next turn, after Sam pulled back his left 1 fig Inf, fire from one of my panzers gets two hits on the other forward center Inf. Sam moves that unit back too, into the relative safety of the woods on his left. He also moves up his armor. I play my AIR SORTIE and my plane score one hit each on an Inf, artillery and the elite tank – all in the center. Sam then kills off my 1 fig panzer in the center after moving up his elite armor – its fire misses but his lone arty shot makes the kill. The game is now tied at 1. An exchange of tank fire sees me come out on the short end – I score one hit to Sams two. I then advance my 1 fig panzer on my right and get two hits on a tank – it is down to 1 fig. Sam play TFH and rolls two flags and two grenades – a wasted turn for him. As I have CLOSE ASSAULT, MOVE OUT, BEL and ARMOR ASSAULT, I decide to cross my bridge w/ an Inf and panzer. I get one hit on the Inf in the town. It is a big mistake – two French LEFT ALLs later and both my units that crossed the river are blasted off the map (aided by the presence of a French plane). I did kill the 1 fig tank on my last turn so the score stands at 3 to 2 French. My FIREFIGHT reduces two Inf on my right to 1 fig each and one Inf on my left to 2 figs. Sam now has three 1 fig Inf on the board. I only I had a card to lay a bridge on my right. Well, I do draw such a card. Sam brings on another plane (AIR POWER) and strafes one of my arty and my 1 fig panzer on my right but misses both. Well in light of this, I really cannot afford to lay that bridge as if Sam keeps it flying next turn he can easily block me from using it and still strafe. I play my own AIR SORTIE and kill off one of the 1 fig Inf to tie the game at 3. More importantly, my plane is in position to strafe the other two 1 fig Inf. Sam splits up his 1 fig Inf so that I cannot strafe them both in my next turn and moves his plane to strafe my arty again but misses. Once again, I cannot lay the bridge due to the French plane in the area. Fearful of a TFH ordered plane w/ 2d strafing, I feel I must use my RIGHT 3 to order units there. I order my plane and it picks off one of the 1 fig Inf. It also can hit the 1 fig arty in the center next turn, if needed. The fire from my 1 fig panzer kills off the other 1 fig Inf and I now have a 5 to 3 lead. Sam plays a CENTER 3, but only gets as far as his 1d Air Check – a grenade secures the 6 to 3 win for me. Sam lost a plane in both games of this match!

This was game # 1 of a Vassal PBEM match.
After a first turn German AIR SORTIE which gets a hit on my elite armor, I play DHQ to move my left Inf in the open into the woods, my right arty into the center / right woods hex and both my tanks adjacent to the ME-109 to force a 2d Air Check. Sam rolls a grenade for his Air Check and his plane goes down – it is now a 1 to 0 French lead. I move both my tanks forward, one into the woods and the other to fire on the German Inf (Ger right) in the open w/ no retreat. Five shots from my elite armor, and Inf and my arty kill off this unit and now I have a 2 to 0 lead. After Sam advances two of his right panzers to the river and gets a hit and a flag on my elite armor along w/ a hit on one of my sandbagged Inf, I play a CENTER ALL. I move both center sandbagged Inf back, move my elite armor back towards the river and move my other tank out of the woods to fire on the panzers across the river. I retreat one of them and kill off the other for medal number three. I also hit the left panzer in the town. Sam plays COUNTER ATTACK to my CENTER ALL so he can fire his arty. One more hit is scored on my elite armor w/ 4 shots. I play a CENTER 3, and hope for kill off a board edge panzer (Ger right) after moving both my tanks to fire 6 shots on this unit. I do get 2 hits but fail in my mission. My lone arty shot misses the panzer in the town (no retreat). Sam kills off my 1 fig tank, but just barely – his first three shots miss, but his last lone shot from his Inf in the town does the trick and now it is a 3 to 1 game. On my next turn I have no other option but to play my last center card and fire my arty after moving a center Inf into the woods on my right. The panzer in the town is hit again. My other arty shot kills off the 1 fig panzer on my left. The French now have a commanding 4 to 1 lead. My gamble to draw a card to move my tank that I had moved into my left did not pay off and I pay for it this turn – it is killed off w/ but 4 shots. Sam closes my lead to 4 to 2. A French ARTILLERY BOMBARD gets two hits w/ 4 shots vs the center Ger Inf (no retreat). I was tempted to move both guns up into the cover of the woods from where they could possibly fire 2 shots each in future turns but opted for the possible kill. On my next turn, two more arty shots on the same Inf get another hit and reduce this unit to 1 fig. A German BARRAGE on my right forward 3 fig Inf in the town gets a hit and a flag. My next turn my right arty finishes off the 1 fig Inf in the center. I draw tow RIGHT ALLs w/ the play of my RECON card. Hmmmm, which one to keep? I guess it will have to be one of the RIGHT ALLs. Sam plays COUNTERATTACK to my RIGHT 1 card just to move his panzer out of harms way (out of arty range). I play my RIGHT ALL and move my 2 fig Inf back while moving two Inf forward along w/ my arty. As I have a RIGHT 2, MOVE OUT and INF ASSAULT, I hope using one of these cards or a combination of them will end the game. Sam brings on a plane to fly Interdiction on my right Inf – there goes the INF ASSAULT plan. I settle for my RIGHT 2. One hit is scored on an Inf from my Inf then my lone arty shot kills off the 1 fig panzer on the board edge for the 6 to 2 win.

I began by softening up the Allies with some artillery and (until the defenders retreated out of range) tanks, plus a Barrage against the SF tank (3 hits), but I had a hard time finishing them off. After 8 turns, the score was only 2-1, Allies. I had built a bridge on my right, but had only brought two tanks and an infantry across it. By turn 12, those and a third tank that had crossed that bridge would be gone and I would be down 5-3.
Fortunately, I had been able to build a bridge in the center on turn 11 and bring a couple of tanks across it. I was able to weaken and destroy two infantries to tie the score. The Allies tried twice to clinch a victory by shooting at their only easy target -- a 1-figure artillery I had advanced to row 2 -- but they missed.
At last, on turn 15, my Recon Center was able to get a tank within range of a 1-figure infantry that had been retreated to the back row (by 2 flags on an Artillery Bombard), and that attack scored the final hit.

The Germans started out by building bridges in their center and left sections and gave a bunch of orders on their left, but my units were well enough protected by the terrain to keep them from making much headway.
Some good cards allowed me to get my tanks across the board and into play. An Armor Assault on turn 7 destroyed an armored unit on the center bridge, and then my tanks infiltrated to finish off both Allied artilleries and a weakened infantry.
I was shocked. Looking at the board for the first time, I expected it to be an easy win for the Germans.
