The air strike rule gives a strong advantage to the Allies in the trench war. Thus Germans are forced to attack. However, they have to do it across their own defenses: barbed wire and minefields. I concentrated the forces and tried to attack the Allies rigth flank. This gave me a few medals but the air attacks and the artillery at the end won the game for the Allies.

46 turns!
Allies pushed on the right and centre gaining a few medals before pushing on the left. Axis forces became thin but put up an excellent fight winning the last medal with an artillery shot on a lone infantry figure.
Note:
The dice were not rolling standard distribution plus some obvious glitches in the scenario control. Replay showed total number of units destroyed higher than total number of units on the board (Armour).

An early AIR POWER wipes out my center arty after it had moved up to try and get into better position. Soon my infantry was hit hard and the fire on these units was very accurate. Trailing 0 to 3 and having failed to at least get a hit on one of the Allied arty I had little choice but to advance and gain some kills.
I went after the Allied tanks in the open on my left and right and got 2 hits on one. But both my flank infantry were killed off as 10 shots got 8 hits! I used BARRAGE and bagged one tank to at least get 1 medal and even what my opponent had scored in the first game. Then in spite of AMBUSH one of infantry in Hague was hit 3 times.
I attacked with my weak forces in the center and finished off a 1 fig infantry and killed another tank. Another Allied AIR STRIKE kills off a 1 fig infantry. I come close to killing off the last Allied tank and then an Allied ARTY BOMBARD finishes things.

Online MATCH Game 1
I wipe out an infantry than had advanced on my left. A few turns later I use my tanks and ARMOR ASSAULT with two attacking the center hill and finish off an infantry and a 1 fig arty. My AMBUSH gets 2 hits on another infantry on the center hills and my tanks survive to attack again. One kills off an infantry.
A turn later my armor clears the center hill and I lead 5 to 0. My AIR STRIKE hits the German left and wipes out a 1 fig infantry and gets 2 hits on an infantry in Nouainville.
A German BARRAGE saves my opponent from a sure shutout loss and it is a 6 to 1 game. My second ARMOR ASSAULT ends things as I bag the 1 fig infantry in Nouainville.

Online Rematch. Allies opened with Barrage vs art on their L. Counter-Attack scored a hit on art on Allied-L. Next Recon-R as Air Strike(2) did some damage(3h/4d). Axis moved some units, and Recon-C as Air Strike(3) scored 4h/6d and 2 flags, knocking unit out of sandbags. Axis Air Power scored 3h/4d, but rolled a tank against the lone-fig art on Allied Left baseline. Allies moved up L-tank, which got 2 hits from #3 mine, and Axis killed it. I then moved up L-art and tank in Center, then Recon-in-Force moved my R-arm to forest while both art killed 2 inf 3h/3d. I sent my tank up the hill to clear wire and got 2h/3d vs 3-fig inf. Firefight scored 3 hits on 2 arms. Round 9, I chose to play Attack-R instead of Probe-C to go after his lone-fig inf, so Axis got a shot to kill my tank. (TIED@2)
Infantry Assault-C pulled back 2 lone-fig inf to baseline (not next to any unit). Allies killed a unit with BEL 3h/4d, moved to Axis baseline, survived a turn 3h/6d to kill a lone-fig inf with Close Assault. (ALLIES 4-2)
G. departed/disconnected at this point, and didn't return. Johnny finished his turn, killing 1-fig inf on his baseline (but shouldn't have Taken Ground) and rolled a grenade on 1d killing my lone-fig art. Next turn I played Recon-C as Air Strike to kill his lone-fig inf on baseline, and got 1 hit on his inf that TG. (ALLIES 5-4)
After that he played aggressively, advancing on his Right. I killed the unit in the mine. Artillery Bombard moved Axis artillery on his Left 3. I got another hit on his inf that TG. Axis played TFH (1inf,2star) which killed my lone-fig arm in R-forest, and hit and retreated my 2-fig inf from town. I missed his lone-fig inf that TG, and he killed that inf. (TIED@6)
I missed that inf that TG again, and instead of pulling it out of 1d art range, Johnny moved it forward into 2d range! Attack-C allowed my inf to kill it on 1d before my art rolled.

In the rematch, it was my turn to have card problems. I didn't touch a Center card until after my 9th turn, and Gonzalan eliminated my Right tank on his 4th turn. This basically left me with two unappealing flanks and a paralyzed center. After his 8th turn, he led 3-1. However, I had started drawing tactic cards.
My BEL scored one hit against the arty toward my left, and my first of two consecutive Inf Assaults finished it off. My TFH with 4 orders (inf, tank, tank, arty) killed two infantries, tying the score at 4-4, and then I started drawing Center cards. The Germans completed two more kills, but ultimately my tanks, arty, and air strike were able to deliver three kills for me, in the center, near my left seam, with the final kill coming on my 16th turn. In this game, I rolled 55d, versus 56d for the Germans.

Memoir Online League, Season 7, Round 2, Game 1.
The Allies opened with a Center air strike against my arty and inf, hitting only one infantry figure. I responded with a BEL that eliminated the arty on my right. On the Allies' 9th turn, with the score tied 1-1, their 2-fig infantry tried to close-assault an infantry in my Left woods, so I Ambushed and killed it, and drew Barrage. I put the Barrage to immediate use, killing a 2-fig tank.
On their 11th turn, the Allies hit me with a Firefight, eliminating my 1-fig inf on the center hill. I Countered, rolling 6-for-8 and eliminating 2 infantries to take a 6-2 lead. Loaded with four useless Right cards and Dig In, the Allies moved a tank and infantry onto my line of sandbags. I played TFH, rolled 4 orders, and my infantry triple-hit the tank for a surprise ending on turn 26.
Gonzalan had terrible card problems: Beginning after his 4th turn, he had at least 4 Right cards for the entire remainder of the game. But he was very sportsmanlike about it -- I didn't discover his card problems until I was looking at the replay to write this battle report.

Lose MATCH 7 (34) to 9 (38)
Early on with the help of two RECON AIR POWERs and BARRAGE along with a lucky 1d shot from my left arty I took out both German arty. I also took out an infantry in the center.
I then used ARMOR ASSAULT and killed off another infantry in the center on the hills. I then lost a center tank but my FIREFIGHT killed off two 2 fig center infantry and I lead 6 to 1.
Late in the game I play another AMROR ASSAULT but I fear AMBUSH so my center 1 fig tank rolls onto the hills and fires off 3d at a 2 fig infantry but falls a hit short. That infantry then kills off my tank. My last turn TFH orders my left arty and its 2d finish off the center 1 fig infantry for the win.

BGG League / Season 7 / Rd 2 / Game 1.
Not much of a battle. Luck is needed for the Germans and I lacked both the cards and dice to make it even a bad game.
I did not draw a single card for the center. My best card-BEL-got 1 hit on the Allied left baeseline arty. My midgame FIREFIGHT got a few hits. I missed the 1 fig arty three times and a 1 fig tank three times.
The Allies just rolled with two CENTER ASSAULTS and DHQ. They started off with ARTY BOMBARD which killed off 1 center infantry. Then two tanks roamed the center and killed off two infantry and Arty. Then a RECON AIR POWER finished off a 2 fig infantry and got 2 hits on another. Within a few turns I lost my last 2 right infantry to the Allied armor.
One of those real waste of time games where one side gets all the cards and luck and the other player gets hosed. I was out ordered-outshot and also outhit-I had a measly 23pct to my opponents 46 pct. That I lost badly is not surprising but being blanked really rubs salt in.

Early one I kill off a two center infantry but lose a two tanks in return. The Ger arty by Tonneville has proved to be a real danger even though it is down to 1 fig. But I soon end that with another RECON AIR POWER and kill it off along with the infantry in Tonneville to lead 4 to 2. The Germans throw an AIR POWER against my left and get 2 hits on infantry units. There is a lot of moving about in the next several turns until I kill off a German infantry on my right which had advanced to the hedgerows.
I then launch a late attack in the center with a 4 unit INF ASSAULT which takes out one infantry and gets a hit on another. The Germans hit back with their last three center infantry but can only gets a few hits. A 1 fig infantry of mine then charges up onto the center hills and takes out a 2 fig infantry.

ONLINE GAME
This is one of those scenarios where you wonder how a certian side can lose-in this case the Allies. Well my opponent had very good cards (to my usual probes) and even better dice. I only got 1 Recon card so only had one AIR POWER attack and that whiffed on the arty. My opponent kept advancing single infantry units and backed by his arty managed to get the upper hand this way. Very good rolls early on my tanks took out 2 of these units. By the end of my 12th turn the score was tied 4 to 4. But a German FIREFIGHT wiped out two 2 fig infantry and I was down 4 to 6. I then tried to kill off a 2 fig infantry by advancing a 2 fig infantry and firing my arty but 3d only got 1 hit. My opponent then moved his 1 fig infantry up and of course got the 2 hits needed on my infantry to win. That is how it went all game and I never really got off my baseline for the most part. It was a selective aggressive defense by my opponent made possible by my weak cards and his strong ones and by his very accurate fire.

Online. 17 Rounds. I (Axis) moved my artillery forward to have chance to roll 2d. His TFH(5inf!) was a dud since only 3 got to shoot. I had 2 inf kills to his 1, when he Countered my Recon-in-Force to get two more kills. Allies 3-2.
When his tank came up the hill, I shot it with 3 units. The first rolled 2 hits and a star, the next two rolled 5 more stars! That failure and his next turn clinched his victory. His tank rolled 2h/3d vs my artillery then A-O to put 2 hits on inf, knocking it to 1, and his other tank scored a hit on another inf in the Center. I played Infantry Assault-C to kill his lone-fig tank and put a hit on another. That one came up the hill to kill a lone-fig inf and A-O to kill another lone-fig inf in sandbags, then put 2 hits on my remaining inf in Center. That one couldn't kill that tank on 2d, so he killed it.

Online Rematch. Allies advanced his artillery on the Left. Recon-in-Force shot at it and missed (never got any hits on artillery) while I advanced artillery on my Left. Allies advanced on their Right. I shot at his tank with 2d and scored 2 hits.
Allies advanced a tank in the Center. I got 3 hits on 4 dice. He played his 2nd Assault-Center and retreated two of my guys; tank came up hill to clear wire. I played TFH (3 inf) to kill his tank on first roll. He played Air Power for a Center kill. I Countered for a kill. He played BEL for a Center kill but left his guy on the hill. I played Pincer move and killed it. Germans 4-2.
Allies advanced on their Right to retreat me and move into forest. I used Move Out! and decided to move 2 up the Right while fighting back in my Left forest. His Probe-Right fought my inf and got 3 hits/3 dice. I Countered and killed his inf and third tank. Attack-Center missed my lone-fig inf, while retreating one on his Left. Germans 6-2.
I shot at his inf in the town on my Right, but retreated it, so that was about it for my advance, when he killed my lead inf there next turn. I started shooting at his lead inf in the Center, and knocked it down to 1 fig. He pulled it back, and I took pot-shots at it. He killed my other inf on the Right. I sent an inf from the Right to the minefield to go after it, but my artillery finally got it.

Online. Cards and dice went with me.
I had both Recon Rights at start. He moved his Left artillery up, so I played the first Air Strike and killed the artillery and hit some infantry. He got a grenade against my artillery on baseline, so I moved it up and other art to R/C line with Direct from HQ. Two more hits on his guy in town next to hill, so he played Medics and recovered 3.
I "ping"ed away for a time and played my 2nd Direct from HQ. He rolled one retreat on my tank in the stream 2 or 3 times. He moved a guy back on his Right and after he moved a guy on the hill back I played Armor Assault. With it I came up the hill and shot an infantry not in sandbags. He struck back, getting 1 tank hit on Center and 2 on tank in stream, but my Ambush (had from start) took out his lone-fig inf. I played Recon-in-Force, but my lone-fig tank on stream was no longer on the C/R so had to shoot 2d with artillery. My L/C tank moved and got a Center kill on the Overrun, but my Center tank just retreated the artillery. He killed two tanks the next turn. Allies 4-2.
I drew some more great cards that I wouldn't play (Barrage and Air Power) while he wouldn't get to play his BEL. I did play TFH (2 star, 1 arm, 1 inf) which knocked 2 inf on R/C lines to 1 fig and retreated his lead so they were together. My artillery got a hit on his Right inf in the open, while my tank killed it and Overran to retreat guy in forest and Take Ground. It was in 3d range of artillery, so he played Artillery Bombard but retreated it to 2d and didn't kill it. I played my 2nd Recon-Right for two kills and the win.

Played Online. Advanced tanks and artillery into 2d range. He pulled back wounded guy in town. I killed inf in hedgerow. That tank on L/C line got 2 hits, so I pulled it back to baseline. Germans played Air Power and killed it. He killed my 2nd tank in river between mines.
I played Recon-Right as Air Strike on 2 units kill an infantry on the hill. I played Armor Assault to come up the hill and take out his wounded infantry. Probe Center killed my 3rd tank. Tied@3.
Artillery on both sides shot inf for awhile. My artillery got 3 hits on infantry on my Right but he used Medics for full recovery. His Firefight got some hits. Once I got 2 Recons, I played one as Air Strike against his artillery on my L/C line and got 1 hit + 2 on town inf. Then played the next and did the same. He Counter-attacked that???
I sent a guy forward with BEL to get my 6th kill, but put it in his back where he'd have to move out of sandbags to attack it. He came out (hit+flag) and I used Close Assault, but his Ambush scored 2 hits and I scored 2 hits. He used Infantry Assault-Right to take my guy out and pull his 1-fig inf out of artillery range. I advanced my artillery while his artillery killed a 1-fig inf in Center. I finally got his 2 rounds later.

25 Rounds. Allied Air Strikes (no planes).
Allies lost their first infantry unit to a #4 minefield in the Center. We fought and pulled back lone-figure units to the baseline (Allies: 2 tanks, 1 infantry; My Germans: 1 infantry). Allies got all the good Tactics cards: but the score was 1-1 on turn 13.
Turn 14, Allies played Their Finest Hour and scored medals. As Germans, I had a handful of Center cards and an Infantry Assault while the Allies found a #3 minefield in the Center with infantry, and a #2 on his Right with tanks. Score 4-4.
I advanced 1 artillery to the third rank, while he advanced 2 and we fought it out. I drew Barrage and having lost games by not using it promptly, played it immediately but poorly: against a figure on his baseline I could have hit with artillery, instead of his 2-figure tank, or full strength unit to finish off later. He Counter-Attacked and destroyed my artillery on my Left after having wounding it with an Air Strike. I destroyed his other two lone-figure units on his baseline, but didn't have a good target for the win. As a result he played Artillery Bombard to tie 6-6 and got the win shortly thereafter, my Medics notwithstanding.

*PBEM*
German was dealt a weak hand, Barrage and 4 probe cards. Luckily, after several turns, they began to build a better hand after several turns, drawing Firefight, Assault Center, 2-2-2, and TFH.
Barrage launched against an arty, score 1 hit and flagged him to the backline. Allies spent a Recon-1 to played an Air Strike toward the German arty, score a hit, but unfortunately, they spent a lot of effort trying to eliminate that arty but failed until the end of game.
In the mid game, German played TFH, ordered 3 INF, and reduced couple of Allies tanks, but Allies did a good job of killing another unit and took the lead by 2-0. After removing a wire on the hill, two Allies tanks charged to the front, reducing a unit to 1-fig, but the German Firefight even though unable to kill a single unit, successfully repelled the attack and inflicted heavy damages on the Allies side.
Finally, German's 2-2-2 wiped out three weakened units and gained momentum, continuing their rampage and began eliminating the Allies attacking units one by one, until another TFH was played, gave 5 orders, and strike the Allies very hard, they lost a lot of units in their frontline.
The game was ended after 15 turns, German's Assault Center took care of two Allies infantries up on the hill and the other one sitting behind the hedgerow near Beaudinville. This map looks like a walk-away for the Allies, but luckily, German got better cards and dices throughout the game, probably putting a panzer for the German might tweaked the map slightly better.
