It's over Anakin, I have the high ground. Sadly these legendary words did not ring true on the slopes of Monte Lungo.
There were 3 distinct phases to this game, which left a sour, sour taste in the mouth.
Back to back IA's from the allies put us immediately on the back foot as they mobilised en masse and were immediately peppering our right flank. The enemy was at the gates, and our defences seemed thin.
However, with a sound of a blood-curdling war cry, the panzers came to the party. An Armor Assault and 4/4 infantry were rolled for an immediate medal, with the role on butchering more allied cannon fodder. We followed this with a well timed ambush that hit 3/3.A new dawn perhaps.
The panzers were running riot and this left the game 4-3 in our favour. Just a solo allied tank to finish and a duo of infantry and the game was ours. But the dice giveth, and the dice taketh away. 3 shots on the tank yielded the worst possible flag into the forest and no kill. Meanwhile the allies picked off a kill to draw level, and our back door was left swinging open. We would lose next turn if we couldn't finish now, naturally 0/6 shots hit on both and having rallied from the back foot to the brink of victory, we ceded the hill and with it the game.
A bitter defeat and the feeling of what could've been. Remember this feeling lads, for we do not wish to taste it again.

my left flank held their positions valiantly, while the right flank was overwhelmed but not captured because of my artillery. it was extremely close, two units were eliminated on my final turn, if one failed to be eliminated i would have surely lost on the ensuing turn.

Game 3 of Audie Murphy’s Campaign. After weeks of slow progress in Italy, the pace quickened considerably for the US Army and its 3rd Infantry Division. A strong series of cards allowed the US to order five consecutive assaults (one Center, one Left, one Armor and two Infantry), which brought the bulk of American forces to bear on the suddenly overwhelmed Germans. Ahead 4-0 in medals, but with neither objective claimed, the US then focused on capturing the two mountaintops. Monte Rorondo fell first, only to be recaptured by the Germans after shaking off the initial US onslaught. One turn later, the Americans took Monte Lungo for the sixth and final medal. Victory Point totals (including medal objectives): US 16, Germany 18.

Game 2 of an ONLINE MATCH which I Win 10 (43) to 9 (41)
After a few turns I lost my left panzer and then my arty to a lucky BARRAGE. That one really hurt. A turn after that I would lose and infantry on my right and now I only had two infantry to protect that medal hex. But these units took out the US tank which had moved onto the hills. A battle then began on my left and center but my shooting was poor and I could only get 2 kills but still lead 4 to 3.
What also hurt was the Allies played CENTER ASSAULT with several units and two TFHs in that very important span of time and with the last got 2 more kills to lead 5 to 4. They also had an infantry within 2 hexes of the medal hex on my left and had little choice but to block the path to medal hex and play for another turn and hope for something better than a probe. But it matter little as my opponent promptly wiped out a right 3 fig infantry with one 3d attack. The dice fell for him like that most of the game. Certainly my subpar shooting made a difference and I probably should have taken out a few more infantry along the way.

Game 1 of an ONLINE MATCH
I promptly lost one tank in the center on some very good panzer fire. I then started an attack on my left while the two panzers hit my right. I killed an infantry on my left then my tank moved into the medal hex. I use M & M to recover 2 figs to my tank and it killed off a 2 fig infantry on my left although I had to leave the medal hex to do so. I could not order my tank so used BARRAGE and got a hit on the arty and flagged it off the hill. Then my tank was killed off and the German right was secure.
I then lost and infantry on my right to the two panzers and trailed 2 to 3. Things were not good as I had no tanks on the board. Later a German ARMOR ASSAULT would get 3 hits on one of my right infantry. I was able to take out one of the panzers with my right infantry and the following turn I took a chance and moved my 1 fig right infantry forward and its 2d attack took out the other panzer which was down to 1 fig. Now with a 4 to 3 lead and BEL in hand I felt confident of a win. I was somewhat taken aback by a German MOVE OUT which saw 4 German infantry move up and get hits on three of my infantry. I pulled back a 2 fig infantry and my arty then took out the baseline 1 fig arty while two infantry advanced towards the right medal hex.
A German CLOSE ASSAULT does no damage but then my prior AMBUSH did not prevent that 4d attack either. I then moved an infantry into the medal hex for the win.

MEM ONLINE Game
An early Allied ARMOR ASSAULT kills off infantry on both flank hills. But I kill off both tanks which have advanced onto the hills. The Allies get the upper hand and take out a 2 fig infantry on my baseline and take the hill medal on my left.
But one of my panzers kills off one infantry and the medal is lost to the Allies. My panzer is lost after advancing off the hill. But a turn later I kill off another infantry on the left hill after cutting it off. An infantry battle follows on the left hill and it goes back and forth for a few turns before I get the final kill.

Round 7, Allies drew and played Infantry Assault-C, took medal site and killed an infantry. (ALLIES 5-2).
Round 8, Allies: Close Assault (no Centers to go after lone-fig inf in forest baseline) but got several hits on 3 different units. Axis played Attack-C, but couldn't kill 2-fig inf on his R, or retreat inf from medal site on his L.
Round 9, Allies: TFH(3 stars), rolled flag on inf on medal on my L, TG to win with medal site.

Axis sent 2 tanks to their L and on Round 7 killed my R arm and retreated out of forest, then he scored 2h/3d on 2 different inf. I spent a card to put an inf back in the forest. Direct from HQ killed my tank on the L and retreated me out of the forest again. This time I played a Right to go into one forest and out of another for 2h/2d vs arm. I was out of Rights (and tanks) but played Armor Assault to kill his tank. He played Recon-in-Force to get 1 hit each on 2 inf. Barrage got 2 hits to kill his last tank. Allies 3-2.
Axis had 2 Infantry Assaults like I did last game, and came down his Left with 3 inf to kill my inf and retreat me out of the lead forest again, TG! TIED@3.
TFH(2inf,2star) killed inf in forest. Axis played 2nd Infantry Assault to get 2h/3d each on two 2-fig inf, and TG away from my Center inf. Axis 5-4.

Allies: 19/50,38%.

Allies got 2 hits on my inf on my Right, so I pulled it back and got a hit on his tank. He played Air Power to kill it, get 2 hits on another inf, and hit and flag on the third. I sent my tank to the Right where it sat for awhile. Allies came up their Right. We each played a Direct from HQ, and I Countered his. Allies 2-1.
Allies brought his tank on the hill, and with Recon-in-Force I rolled 2h/2d vs it and 3h/3d vs his inf on the Right. He advanced 2 in the Center to kill my inf on my L/C hill to tie at 3.
He got 2 hits on my Elite inf, before Firefight(3) killed his lone-fig inf and 2-fig tank 3h/7d. Axis 5-3.
Allies kept coming in the Center killing my elite inf in the forest (TG) and getting 1 hit on tank by artillery. I played BEL to move between inf and medal site and my lone-fig tank and scored 3h/3d for the win.

I (Allies) advanced Center/Right incl. moving artillery up 1 town and got torn up, 4-2, after killing his tank. He killed my tank bringing him to 5. Allies TFH(1inf!) killed his tank. Germans 5-3.
I sent my last 2 guys on the Right forward, and he came down the hill to meet them, knocking one to 2-fig, and next turn the other to 1-fig. I sent one to the corner with Infantry Assault-R, but failed to kill his 2-fig inf with mine. He kept coming, and I had two lone-fig inf now, so I had to bring out both to kill his lone-fig elite unit, and got 3 hits on his full unit. He killed one of mine for the win.

Online. No Centers and 3 Lefts meant Allies advanced Left, starting Round 4. I drew an Infantry Assault-L which helped me up faster. It was obvious he was saving Ambush for my now 1-fig inf, but I let him take it instead of cancelling my attack. Tied at 1.
Round 7 I kept going and got 2 infantry kills on the Left. He got his 2nd kill, so my Close Assault only activated 1. Then Axis got my Left tank. Tied at 3.
He hadn't been able to kill my last inf on the L. I finally got some Centers so sent some units forward, incl. artillery. Attack-C gave me two kills, incl. 1 tank. He killed my tank on his side, and could have done an Armor Overrun to kill my lone-fig inf, but missed. So I moved it 2 to take the L medal site for the win.

Allies scored 2 hits on 2 dice several times. I wounded his tank on my Right.
Allied TFH activated 2 armor, 2 infantry, 1 artillery. He did an Armor Overrun after Ambush failed to roll a flag. He rolled 15 dice - got 3 medals, including medal site. Score 4-0.
I played Armor Assault to kill his tank and recover the medal site. He killed my lone-figure tank with Infantry Assault-Right. I killed his 2nd tank with BEL. He then played another IA-Right to get 3 hits on 3 dice on my tank on the medal site for the win.

Played Online. I moved my artillery forward. Germans came down on their Left and scored a kill; I advanced to meet him. I got hits and a kill with Air Power and killed a tank. He took out 4 units for an early lead, clearing me from his Left. I got a lucky shot on his lone-figure tank which Took Ground into the forest. But I failed to "ping" his lone-figure infantry which went out of range to his Left forest. His Barrage failed to get any hits vs artillery.
I advanced on the Left, and he moved his artillery forward Right. I sent all those guys forward, and we just exchanged an infantry, but left me vulnerable. Score 5-4.
I needed 2 kills, but instead of going for his lone-figure infantry on the Left hill for 1, I tried an Armor Assault to hopefully retreat and kill an infantry to get the medal site. I scored 3 hits, instead of a flag, so killed it, but didn't get the Medal. He played Close Assault; got 2 hits the win.

Played Online. Americans advanced on Left and Right. I'd moved my Center tank to Left, then played Pincer Move (cleared a wire) to get a kill on my Left. He moved his tank in front of the town and I went after it with both my tanks in the Center but scored 2 flags on it, so 2nd tank didn't get a shot. He came at me (Infantry Assault-Center) to kill a tank and retreat the 2nd back to my L/C hill. I now had targets in the open in the Center.
I got 3 kills in 3 turns incl. his tank, from mine now on Hill 193. He played the other Infantry Assault-Center to take out my tank I'd moved to the Center wire. I played Direct from HQ for my 5th kill. He played Assault-Center but couldn't get a kill. I played Counter-attack to come forward shooting with 2 inf and artillery vs his lone-figure infantry in the town. So that was 5 kills in 5 turns.

Played Online. After Barrage hit 1 tank in Center I decided my cards favored a Left advance. Germans moved his Center guys toward that section, while my tank from Right (on General Advance) headed that way too. I lost 2 infantry at the hill so postponed Assault-Left. Germans Counter-attacked TFH (both of us moved 4). I got 1 guy up the Hill 193 to take a ping at his lone-figure infantry on the Left hill.
I had 2 lone-figure infantry and a lone-figure tank on the Left and he killed them all in 1 turn. I kept going with what I had in Center (a tank, artillery and inf on Hill 193). I couldn't kill his tank for awhile, now my last was down to 1-figure so I played Medics to bring back 1 and kill his tank. He came at me with elite infantry but failed to kill, so I used Assault-Left to take Monte Lungo (Left hill) for the win.

Played Online: TFH 5X! My BEL killed US armor! (I wished I'd killed the one on my Right.) Then we exchanged grenades on each other's artillery.
Soon, I played TFH. He Counter-attacked and got 2 kills on his Left. I Counter-attacked his Counter-attack, but he played Ambush to retreat me before I could hit his tanks! He played TFH and killed 2 more to eliminate me from his Left section!
I sent my lone-figure tank to the forest while he took the hill medal on his Left and artillery "pinged" at my tank. I played TFH and scored 2 hits on 2 dice to kill his armor! But his infantry Assault scored on my tank in the forest for the win.

The 3rd US infantry pressed on all sides but our stalwart Panzergrenadiers held the line. We started with a barrage took their artillery. Then our artillery and infantry tore their lines to shreds as they advanced towards our defensive position. Our tanks came forward and finished the job when our forward positions were overrun. They will not pass through the Barbara line.
