Historical Background: On the 16th of March 1945, Japanese troops are in the vicinity of Meiktila airfield, so the British reinforcement by airlift was suspended for a time. However, general Cowan continued to send armored columns to control the access roads of Meiktila. 99th Indian Brigade was ordered to clear the road to Pindale and the villages Kandaingbauk and Shawbyugan. The Japanese were expecting that attack and the 119th Infantry Regiment was reinforcing the 55th Infantry Regiment who controlled the area. When the 1st Sikh Light Infantry arrived at Kandaingbauk, the battalion received suddenly a storm of machine-guns and artillery fire. After a very hard battle the Sikh infantrymen withdrew suffering heavy losses. It was the same scenario when British tanks attacked Shawbyugan from the north side, Japanese anti-tanks guns destroyed quickly four of them. Unable to reach its objectives the 99th brigade withdrew to Meiktila. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
