Historical Background:
In April 1945, the 2nd British Army advanced toward Uelzen, a strategic crossroads between Hamburg and Berlin. The new Panzer Division "Clausewitz" was ordered to counter-attack south of Uelzen to give a sharp check to the Brits. On the 14th of April, the villages of Stadensen and Nettelkamp were captured by the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division with the support of tanks of the 6th Guards Tank Brigade. In the middle of the night, two German armoured columns, with infrared devices mounted on tanks and half-tracks vehicles, attacked the British by surprise and retake quickly Nettelkamp. In Stadensen, the British soldiers, warned by the battle for Nettelkamp, were ready for a new fight. German tanks and half-tracks received a bad welcome by PIAT anti-tank weapons and had to fight against "Churchill" tanks of the 4th Battalion Coldstream Guards at close range in the night. In the morning, the Brits were reinforced by a "Achilles" Tank Destroyer unit. Finally, the Germans didn't succeed to retake Stadensen and the city of Uelzen was captured by the British Army on the 18th of April.
