Historical Background:
On the 17th of June 1940, in the Perche region, German troops advanced with the 1.Kavallerie Division in front. French troops had made some defense line along Huisne river and the soldiers of the 4th RDP (French Dragons) were in Maison-Maugis with some tanks of the 6th Cuirassiers in support. The battle was quite unusual with German cavalry fighting against French tanks and artillery. The Germans were repelled with heavy losses in horses. French Dragons held the village until they received a withdrawal order to go to another position.
