Historical Background:
After the 2nd and 4th Marines landed on Tainan Island on the 24th of July they immediately started pushing inland to consolidate their positions. The Japanese decided to retreat inland in an attempt to forestall the attackers. However the island of Tainan was much more suited for tank warfare and thus the the Japanese were overwhelmed within 9 days.

Construction battalions soon had the airfields fixed and the American bombers were able to start to bomb the Japanese homeland.
