Historical Background:
Lt. Gen. Michitaro Komatsubara, a well schooled officer, planned a devastating two-pronged assault that would encircle and destroy the Soviet armies and expel the invaders from Manchuria. His Northern task force launched its first assault on 1st July. After easily crossing the Khalkhin Gol river, Japanese soldiers drove the Soviet forces from Baintsagan Hill and quickly began to advance southwards. The following day his Southern task force followed them with another massive assault. Seizing an opportunity due to poor Japanese logistical planning with only one bridge across the river, the Soviets under Zhukov quickly rallied 450 tanks for a daring counterattack. Despite being entirely without infantry support, they attacked the Japanese task force on three sides, and very nearly encircled them.

9 medals.
The Baintsagan Hill hex is a temporary medal objective worth 1 medal for BOTH sides.
The town hex is a temporary medal objective for the Axis worth 1 medal.

Therefore the Russians start with 1 medal.

The river is fordable on the hexes marked with an 'f'.
Russian Commissar rules are in effect.
Imperial Japanes Army rules are in effect.
Russian special forces as marked. Can move 2 and battle.
