Historical Background: In the morning of December the 11th 1940, 11th Hussars, reconnaissance regiment of the 7th British Armoured Division, reported an Italian position west of Buq Buq, ready to surrender. 3rd King's Own Hussars, equipped with Vickers Mark VIB light tanks and A9 Cruiser tanks advanced towards the Italian place. In fact, Italians were the artillery of the 64th Catanzaro Division with a line of 20 field guns facing east and another line of 33 field guns facing south. A and C squadrons, 3rd Hussars got stuck in a salt pan in front of the Italian guns which opened fire on immobilized targets. A squadron was quickly destroyed. B squadron attacked on the south and succeeded to enter in the Italian position with the support fire of a 11th RHA battery. At that time, Italians decided to surrender.
