Historical Background: After the crossing of the Moselle river near Arnaville, the 7th US Armored Division and the 5th US Infantry Division had to advance on the south of Metz avoiding the defense of this big city. US troops were facing to the 17.SS-Panzer-Grenadier Division "Gotz von Berlichingen" which put up a fierce resistance. A sudden attack of the waffen SS on the west of Vezon was repelled with difficulty while the 48th Armored Infantry Regiment (from the Combat Command A) tried to capture the village of Marieulles. The first US attempt was repelled with heavy losses because of the fire of some 88mm anti-aircraft guns entrenched in the village. In spite of the artillery support of a "Long Tom" 155mm battery, the second US assault failed again. The third attack with the help of tank platoons was a success and US troops captured Marieulles and destroyed the 88mm guns. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
