Historical Background: On the 30th of August 1944, 179th US Infantry Regiment (45th Inf Division) arrived at Meximieux, 30 km east of Lyon. It represented for the German 19.Armee, a serious thread against its retreating way. General Von Wietersheim, commander of the 11.Panzer Division, ordered on the 31st of August to fight against the US vanguard. Kampfgruppe Kilp had to open the road La Valbonne-Meximieux and Kampfgruppe Bödicker had to blow up the bridges on the Ain river, used by US troops and particularly the bridge at Port-Galland. Finally, after a full day of battle against US infantry and French Resistance, the two Kampfgruppe arrived in front of Meximieux. That was the final battle with hard street fighting and tank battle between German Panther and US tank destroyer. At the end of 1st September, German troops ceased fire and withdrew from Meximieux. The town stayed in Allied hands. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
