Historical Background: General Walker, commander of XXth US Army Corps, decided to capture the little mining city of Maizières-les-Metz in the aim to have a good start line for the last assault to Metz. On the 03rd of October 1944, two companies of the 357th Inf Rgt (90th US Infantry Division) moved out from the shelter of Bois l'Abbé and captured a slag heap north of the city. German soldiers stayed in defensive positions in the city and the mining factories. The battle for Maizières-lès-Metz lasted the whole month and American soldiers could capture the city after a long and difficult street fighting slowed down by barbed wire and antipersonnel mines. On the 30th of October, the battle ended with the capture of the town hall, German main defensive position in the city. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
