Historical Background:
In 1945, after some discreet reinforcement in Indochina, Japanese prepared to attack the French garrisons. On the 09th of March 1945 at 20h00, Japanese troops attacked by surprise all French troops in all Indochina. In Hanoï, Japanese attacked the so-called citadel, in fact a group of several barracks guarded by some small defensive positions. Inferior in number and armed with some armored cars and old automatic weapons, French troops put up a fierce resistance against the attacker during twenty hours. But at 15h30, on the 10th of March 1945, due to the lack of ammunition and the arrival of Japanese reinforcement in the battle, French general Aymé ordered to his troops to accept a cease fire. Japanese Commander granted the honors of war to the French defenders of the citadel. This was the only case in this operation where Japanese didn't executed their prisoners.
