Historical Background:
On mid-September 1942, the battle of Stalingrad was really under way. German 6.Armee of General Paulus had got a tactical advantage with the capture of the south of the city and the control of Mamaev Kurgan and the central station. Russian General Chuikov ordered at that time several counter-attacks to recapture these two objectives but the air bombing by the Luftwaffe stopped the Russian attack. On the 27th of September, Paulus launched his second offensive, centered on the north of the city and the factories area. During more than a week, a fierce battle took place in this sector and the Germans advanced slowly but never succeed to breakthrough. After that battle, during the whole October, Russians soldiers drew back one meter after another always battling with fierceness. At the beginning of November, Paulus controlled 90 per cent of Stalingrad, but Chuikov continued to receive reinforcement and saved time, General winter was coming again...
