Historical Background:
On the 3rd of November 1943, two days after the Eltigen beachhead south of Kertch, Soviet troops landed on the Ganikale coast, north of Kertch. Units of the 32nd rifle division, 2nd and 55th Guard rifle divisions made a firm beachhead that Axis troops of the German V.Armee Korps and the Romanian 3rd Mountain Division could not prevent. While the Eltigen beachhead was definitively annihilated by a Romanian counter-attack, the Ganikale beachhead was reinforced continuously and became the starting point of the reconquest of Crimea by Soviet troops on the spring 1944.
