Historical Background:
The battle for Sicily, Operation Husky, began in the night 09th to 10th of July 1943 with a desastrous airborne landing : in the area planned for the 7th US Army, US paratroopers of the 505th Combat Team were scattered on hundred of kilometers. In the early morning, infantrymen of the 1st US Infantry Division and US Rangers of X Force landed near Gela and captured the small city. Italian troops of General Guzzoni, infantrymen of the "Livorno" Division and light tanks of the Mobile Groop "E" counterattacked and were stopped just in front of Gela by the heavy guns of the Allied Navy. German troops of the Panzer Division "Hermann Göring", better equipped but slow to attack, didn't succeed neither than Italians. On the 10th July evening, despite of very short beachhead, US troops had already won the battle.
