Historical Background:
In late April 1942, British and Chinese troops were withdrawing because of the irresistible advance of Japanese Army in Burma. The British rearguard, formed by the 48th Brigade and the tanks of 7th Hussars, kept a solid defensive position in front of Kyaukse, flanked by the mountains and the Sittang marches. The 18th Japanese division, just arrived in Burma, attacked in the night 28th to 29th of April. The 7th Gurkhas Battalion, stopped the Japanese assault and more counter-attacked the enemy. In the morning of the 29th of April, Japanese troops had lost more than 150 killed and about ten for the Gurkhas.
