Historical Background: To take the advantage at Sidi Rezegh, Rommel ordered to the three armoured divisions (15.Pz Div, 21.Pz Div and Italian Division Ariete) to attack together on the 23rd of November. This day was called Totensonntag in Germany, the Sunday of Dead, in remember of World War 1. The Axis attack began at 15h00 with Italian tanks on the left supported by Italian mobile guns, the 15.Pz Div in the middle, Pz Rgt 8 at the head followed by Schützen Regiment (mot.) 115 and Pz Rgt 5 on the right followed by Inf Rgt 200. On the British side, the 5th SA Brigade and tanks of the 22nd Armoured Brigade were facing the assault of Axis tanks, the South African soldiers were supported by anti-tanks guns and field artillery. In spite of a fierce resistance, the 5th SA Bde was destroyed at the end of the day. But it was a Pyrrhic victory for Rommel who had only 90 tanks serviceable at the end of this battle. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
