Historical Background:
The 11th Indian Infantry Brigade arrived in the area of Keren on October 3rd and launched their offensive to the left of the gorge on October 5th. The Queens own Cameron Highlanders fought their way to the front of Mt Sanchil on on the next night, the Punjab Regiment fought their way to the top of Brig's Peak, but were forced to retreat back to the ridge by the Italian 65th Infantry Division (Savoia Grenadiers). The Highlanders and the Punjab Regiment hung onto their positions on the Cameron Ridge despite having to be supplied up from the valley, and despite being under constant attack. By the 6th, the 5th Indian Brigade had arrived and attacked the Fort at Dologolodoc. The valley before the fort was sarcastically renamed "Happy Valley" by the attacking troops. On the night of the 7th, the 6th Rajputana Rifles took the ridge known as Acqua Col and held it until they ran out of ammunition and were forced back to the valley below by artillery fire. On the 10th, the Punjab Regiment attacked their way back to the top of Brig's Peak, and by the next morning were on top of Mt Sanchil, but they were counterattacked by the Savoia Grenadiers and with heavy shelling, were forced to retreat back onto the ridge. The stage is set, the battle is yours.
