Historical Background:
At around 1.30 AM, under the command of Mg. Roy Alexander Farran, two commando units led respectively by Cpt. Micheal Leeds (Special Operation Executive) and Lt. Ken Harvey assaulted two villas on the outskirt of Botteghe, a small village near Reggio Emilia. The two villas hosted the LI Gebirgkorpskommandatur (51st Mountain Army Corp HQ) and the V Section of the German General Command in Italy. The HQ was in charge of coordinating all the operations of the Gothic Line and had a direct phone line with the High Command in Berlin. The assaulting commandos were composed by 30 men of the SAS, parachuted at the beginning of the month near Mount Cusna, supported by the Italian partisan unit "Gufi Neri" (black owls) and around 30 Russian refugees led by the veteran Lt. Viktor "Modena" Pirogov, who escaped form a German prison camp in the north of Italy two years before to join the partisan units in the area. Gufi Neri was a composite unit with no political character commanded by Cpt. Glauco "Gordon" Monducci. It also counted several German and Austrian deserters among its ranks.

The attack was a striking success: the commandos were able to set ablaze the HQ with all the logistic material. The pipe of David Kirkpatrick accompanied the action of the commandos for several minutes, until a bullet punch a hole in the instrument, and the piper had to look for cover behind a tree. The losses were around sixty killed among Axis soldiers and officials. Lt. J.A. Riccomini, Sgt. S. Guscott and Cpl. S. Bolden of the 2nd SAS were killed and a few wounded among the Allied, including Cpt.s Leeds and Monducci.

The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.

Allied Player [Great Britain, Italy, Russia]

You move first.

Axis Player [Germany]
Take 2 command cards (Germans were surprised). Draw two cards after turns 1 and 2. You will then have a hand of 4 command cards for the rest of the battle.

Conditions of Victory:
5 medals

Villa Rossi and Villa Calvi represent Permanent Medal Objectives for the Allies

Special Rules:
Night Visibility rule is in effect (Action 19 - Night Attacks). If you do not own the Air Pack or Pacific Theater expansion, use a 6-sided die. Place the 1 face up, to indicate an initial visibility of 1 hex. At the start of each turn, the Allied player rolls 4 Battle dice to see if the visibility changes. For each star rolled, increase the visibility range by 1, turning the 6-sided die on its appropriate side to reflect the increased visibility.

Place a badge on the elite SAS British units (Troops 2 - Specialized units). For them the British Commonwealth Forces Command rules are in effect (Nation 5 - British Commonwealth Forces).

The American units represent Italian partisans. They use the same rule as French partisans (Nation 1 - French Resistance).

Special Weapon Asset rules (SWAs 4 - Special Weapon Assets) are in effect for partisan units equipped with Mortar (SWAs 6 - Mortar 1942>) and Machine Gun (SWAs 7 - Machine Gun 1942>).
