Historical Background:
The 1st Regiment of France, was created in 1943 under the Laval government as the only armed formation of Vichy. It was disbanded after the allied landing in Provence in August 1944. Some units of this regiment joined the French Resistance and formed, on the 24 of August, the new 8th Regiment of Cuirassiers. The 1st Squadron, under the command of Captain Colomb, was in the village of Ecueillé when a German antitank artillery battery entered in the village in the evening of the 25th of August. French Resistance surrounded the German battery and opened fire in the night. The battle lasted all the night and the German soldiers, with no hope of withdrawing, surrendered in the morning.
