Historical Background: On the 23rd of November 1941 in the morning, the 28th Maori Battalion, 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd NZ Division, attacked the barracks on the heights of Sollum, held by a mix of Italian and German troops. Maori infantrymen captured the barracks with the support of two squadrons of Matilda tanks from the 8th RTR, in spite of the fire of the defenders and in particular from an Italian machine-gun entrenched on a small height north of the barracks. After the battle, the Maoris suffered other losses made by the shells of an Italian heavy artillery battery firing from the Halfaya area. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
