Historical Background:
On the 18th of November 1944, just before the fall of Belfort, the 1st French Armored Division, supported by the 9th Colonial Infantry Division advanced in a small corridor along the Swiss border to reach the Rhine the next day. The D463 road was the only link between the Armored Division and the rest of the 1st French Army under the command of General De Lattre de Tassigny. On the 26th of November, a German counter-offensive tried to cut this logistic road in the vicinity of the Seppois' power plant defended by soldiers of the 152nd Infantry Regiment. Coming from the Oberwald wood, four infantry battalions of the 198.Infanterie Division, supported by tanks and artillery, broke the lines and cut the logistic road. In the afternoon, a French counter-attack made by the 152nd Infantry Regiment and a battalion of the 9th Zouaves with tanks of the 2nd Dragons recaptured the power plant and repelled the enemy north of the road.
