Historical Background:
On the early June of 1941, British operation Exporter against French Vichy troops of the Levant, began by a set back. Scottish Commando (n°11 Special Service Battalion) had to land north of the Litani river to support Australian troops to cross the river. This area was fortified and defended by French colonial battalion. But a part of the commando , X Force led by Major Keyes, landed south of the river. In the north bank, Y Force landed on a fortified beach and suffered heavy losses. In the northern part, Z Force reached its objective, the bridge of Kafr Badda, but was repelled by French troops. Virtually surrounded, this troop had to surrender at the end of the day. On the south bank of the Litani river, Keyes' commandos crossed the river on collapsible boats and suffered heavy losses too. Finally, they were saved by Australian troops who crossed the Litani in turn. At the end of the day, with a lot of killed in action, wounded and prisoners, the Scottish Commando was virtually destroyed.
