Historical Background:
After one week of defensive fights, French General de Verdihac, commander of the Vichy troops in Syria and Lebanon, organized a large counter-attack with three objectives : Merdjayoun, Kuneitra and Deraa. A battlegroup under the command of lieutenant-colonel Amanrich (commander of the 6th Tank Regiment) attacked Merdjayoun occupied by an Australian brigade. On the 15th of June, a tank squadron (R-35 light tanks) and two battalions of infantry assaulted the city. In spite of fierce street fighting, Australian soldiers felt back in front of French tanks and withdrew near the Palestine border. The battle of Merdjayoun became a war of position.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
