Historical Background:
The day after the battle of Kissoueh, the Free French battalion (BM1) tried again to conquer Djebel Kelb. On the other side, the Moroccans soldiers of the Vichy French army, well entrenched, fought like lions, carrying on some counter-attacks. On the 18th of June, a new attack by the Free French failed again after a fierce battle on the top of the Djebel. In the morning of the 19th of June, the Vichy Moroccans soldiers made a new counter-attack in a bayonet charge. They were stopped by the fire of the Free French battalion using drivers, cooks and secretaries to reinforce the Senegalese soldiers exhausted by three days of continuous fighting. In the evening, this Free French battalion was relieved by the battalion of the Foreign Legion under the command of Major Amilakvari, and finally Djebel Kelb was captured by the Free French.
