Historical Background:
In early Spring 1942, the 2nd Soviet Shock Army was surrounded because the Germans had closed the gap on the Volkhov River. General Vlasov's troops tried to breakthrough to reopen the way to the rear. On the 31st of March, a new attack by infantry and tanks was made toward the "Erika" trail and Hill 692 defended by the Germans. This assault was driven back once again, the Soviet tanks had been destroyed by a 88mm gun, minefields and a Stukas air attack. And once again, they were heavy losses on the two sides.
