Historical Background: During the battle of Imphal in India, Japanese troops occupied the hills of the Nungshigum, which overhang the plain of Imphal. Knowing the threat , the British Command ordered to the 5th Indian Division to capture the Nungshigum. On the 13th of April, two squadrons of M3 "Lee" medium tanks of the Carabiniers (3rd Dragoon Guards) supported by one infantry battalion of the 17th Dogras Regiment, climbed the steep slopes south of the Nungshigum and then attacked the machine-guns bunkers of the Japanese 51st Infantry Regiment along the crest. Because of the narrowness of the crest, the M3 tanks attacked in a single column, one after the other and captured first the "Pyramid", then the "Twin Bumps" and finally the bump of Hill 3700, but during the battle all tanks commanders were killed of wounded because of their exposure in turret. It was Squadron Sergeant Major Craddock who finally led the tanks against the bunkers of Hill 3700. In spite some Japanese counter-attacks, the Nungshigum was captured by the 5th Indian Division. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
