Historical Background:
Unternehmen Zitadelle was the attack of the Kursk salient by two German armees, the 9.Armee under the command of Generaloberst Model was in charge of the north pincer of the offensive. On the 5th of July 1943, hundred of panzers, including new "Tiger" heavy tanks and "Ferdinand" heavy tank destroyers, advanced to the battle. After the disruption of the first Soviet defense line, the German attack was moving slow because of several armored counter-attacks ordered by General Rokossovski. At that time , Model focused the action on the city of Ponyri and some extent on the village of Teploïe. On the 11th of July, knowing the heavy losses suffered by his army, Model understood that he will never break the Soviet lines and ordered to the 9.Armee to stop the offensive. The battle of Kursk was definitively lost for the Germans.
