Historical Background:
After the Japanese attack on the Piva roadblock on the 7th of November, US General Turnage ordered to Colonel Craig, commander of the 9th Marines, to counter-attack in the aim to clear the area around the roadblock. On the 9th of November in the morning, after a short artillery firing, two Marines companies L and F, supported by a section of tanks, crossed the US lines held by companies M and I and advanced in the jungle. Meanwhile Japanese units launched several attacks against the US lines near the roadblock, throwing the confusion in the Marines attack. Then in the afternoon, the Marines resumed their advance. The next day, Piva village n° 1 was in US hands.
