Historical Background:
The Metaxas Line was a Greek defense line composed of several forts as the French Maginot Line. This line was established in the Rhodope mountains along the border with Bulgaria. On the 6th of April 1941, this line was attacked by German troops during the invasion of Greece, Operation Marita. The 72.Infanterie Division captured quickly Kato Nevrokopion and attacked Fort Lisse. This fort was a part of a fortified system composed of several fortresses around the Nevrokopion plain (Fort Lisse, Fort Pyramidoïdes, Fort Perithori and Fort Dassalvi). In spite of air bombings, artillery fire and several assaults of infantry and tanks, German troops didn't succeed to capture one of these forts during the battle. On the 9th of April, the Greek defenders received the order to cease fire because of the capitulation of the East Macedonia Army command in Thessaloniki.
