Historical Background: In May 1944, US General Clark needed a breakthrough offensive to leave the bridgehead where his divisions were held up in a limited area for several months. He ordered to the 6th US Army Corps to breakthrough the German lines at Cisterna di Littoria. From the 23rd to the 25th of May, a fierce battle occurred to take the city and to cross the railroad converted in front line by the Germans. US troops suffered very heavy losses (1600 KIA, wounded or missing), mainly in the 3rd US Infantry Division, but the Germans drew back. At that time, Clark could send the US tanks in the Velletry gap to reach finally Valmontone and the national road n°6 leading directly to Rome. The breakthrough was done ! The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history.
Briefing: Axis player [Germany] : 5 command cards. Allied player [United States] : 6 command cards, you move first.
Conditions of Victory: 12 medals. Velletri and Valmontone are each a permanent medal objective for the Allied player.
Special Rules: - Use "Specialized Units" rules (Troops 2) to the three Rangers units. - Use "Elite Armor" rules (Troops 2) to the three Axis armored units. Badges are not required. - Use "Air Strikes and Blitz" rules (Action 3) for the Allied player. - Use "Fordable Streams" rules (Terrains 61) for the Mussolini Canal.
