The commander of the 17th Indian Division sent a force formed by tanks from the 5th (Probyn's) Horse and infantry to clear the area. During the two days of the battle, Allied troops were under heavy artillery fire. On the 12th of March in the evening, the area was under control and Japanese had lost several 105mm and 75mm guns.
