Historical Background:
Japanese troops were arrived around Meiktila. The first attack was for the airfield which allowed the resupplying by airlift of the 17th Indian Division. In the night of the 14th of March, a company of the 55th Infantry Regiment attacked from the north-east while another company of the Mori Special Force attacked from the south. The two companies were repelled in the morning but the battle continued on the perimeter and the Japanese artillery shelled the runway to hamper the allied reinforcement by airlift.
