Historical Background: The German 194. Sicherheits Regiment, composed by 300 men and some armored vehicles left Sete in July 1944 to go to Clermond Ferrand. It arrived on the 4th of August at Egletons, in Correze. Harassed by the French Resistance which cut the roads and made several ambushes, the Germans took refuge in the walls of the National Professionnal School (ENP). On the 14th of August, the local French Resistance, with the support of some Allied paratroopers, attacked the Germans and succeeded to set fire on the school. But the Germans were well entrenched in the school and they resisted to the initial attack. After that, it became a war position as the first world war. Some Ju-88 bombers of the Luftwaffe, based on the Aulnat airfield, helped the surrounded Germans by bombing the French Resistance positions in the city. But it was the announced arrival of the famous Jesser column at Egletons that decided the French Resistance to evacuate the area and to abandon the encirclement. A late bombing by Mosquitos of the RAF inflicted some losses to the Germans but didn't prevent them to escape. The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
